• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi there all.

I have fallen in love with a new application called sketchup. www.sketchup.com. It's real easy to use and the results are amazing.

Then I had a brainwave and thought why don't I build scenery for FS9. Which I love. So I built an airport (made it too complicated to start off with, traits of real life, so I simplified it), but then didn't know how to export it, so found this forum and had another brainwave, export sketchup - import gmax - export MDL. Voola, I have a xml and mdl file.

Now the big question. How to make the MDL a BGL and how to see the BGL in the Runway12 application.

I tried dropping the MDL on the BGLcompiler exe and it did something but I can't find it or don't know where it put it.

So any help with A: MDL to BGL and B: To be able to use runway12 to place my objects.

Thanks for the Forum it's brilliant, brilliant.

Hi Ryan,

If you open the XML file GMax made in a text editor, you will see that you can enter the coordinates of your object there. After you have entered the correct coordinates (don't forget to remove the comments), you can compile the XML file into a BGL by using BGLComp.

If you want to use it with Rwy12, you need to make a library out of your object(s). And make a special XML file to use this library in Rwy12. To make the process of creating the library and the XML file easier, I would suggest that you try Library Creator XML (available on this site).

Hi!

I looked at SketchUp, and I must say that I´m really impressed. Actually, I don´t know if I really need it, but it is fun & easy to use, so I think I will do simple models, like distant houses, with Sketchup instead of Gmax.

Thanks for the tip! Have some 7 hours to go before the trial expires... :)
