• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Where do models/textures go in ADE

I have the latest ADE but having to redo my airport since nothing lands there.. In order for ADE to see these and add them "successfully" where does these files go so ADE creates the data folder etc and add to xml? I click on Get models and it ask to copy to community and it does nothing. Make sense?

Also..jusrt recently..when I click build project..it launches MSFS instead?

Thanks,
BobM.

Hi! Did you check the manual? If so, what part of this procedure did you have trouble with?

It looks like you've placed individual model files into the model file directory and you're trying to add those. But the first sentence says, "invited to add models from any library to the list," in which case, you'd want those individual models to be "built" into the "modellib.bgl," or whatever you'd call it, from yours, or any, compiled scenery. Now this could be error, or it could be because you are correctly attempting to initiate the build process, except fspackagetool.exe is currently not working, when the sim is not running, it was disabled by the last update.

I don't know because I place all my models within the sim interface, the only way to go, imo, millimetric precision and all, anyway, I have read that a workaround for some, is to start the sim before building your library, or do "two way editing." I think you'll find posts on it if you search this sub forum.

Thanks Rick:I have reinstalled ADE with hot fix 5
The load models works after maybe 30 minutes and the project compiles BUT ADE doesn't connect to sim in two way edit.
Any ideas?

Oh ya. My idea is to conserve resources. I have suspended that branch of development until Asobo repairs FSPackagetool.exe. I've spent too many hours applying effort to work arounds that become uselessly wasted time, once the initial problem is addressed. Instead, I've consumed 3 of a 4 week trial of 3ds Max and I intend to get an Indie License when that expires.

BUT ADE doesn't connect to sim in two way edit.
I am not sure you understand how two way editing works. It does not connect ADE and the sim. It means that ADE and Dev Mode can share the project source and you can go from one to the other. This part of the help system describes two way editing

It may be a bit out of date but the principle is the same

Thanks Jon..I told @rhumbaflappy that i didn't know till today that ADE didn't connect to MSFS by fsuipc. The green light was always on till maybe yesterday and now it just stays red so I thought maybe it was result of last updates. I guess I need to build the package from MSFS placed into Community folder and not build from ADE? since it overwrites the xml made by Dev Mode?

BobM.

You can build packages in ADE with two way editing provided that any changes in Dev Mode are saved and you follow the process given for handling two way edits. ADE does overwrite the xml but it is shared with Dev Mode as previously discussed
