Why does my simconnect fail to install?

I've wiped and reinstalled a couple times now and for the life of me I can not figure out how to get Simconnect to install.

Please help this idiot!

Hi,

Can you give a little more information? SimConnect should be installed along with FSX, there's nothing more to do. What are you trying to install, and how do you know it's not installed?

Cheers,
Jim

Well I wasn't sure that it's installed I can't find any files with an appropriate name to indicate simconnect files, or folders.

I'm installing FSX Deluxe. I'm trying to make Jon & company's ADE work but initally with an earlier version it failed to start telling me simconnect was not installed or configured or the like.

So I wiped cleaned and reinstalled when they released the ADE 1.20 and ADE installed but when I went to open it and run it, there's a box on the bottom tool margin that says it can't find simconnect or some other error message regarding simconnect ... in a red field.

So that's where I am ...

I have also tried to get into multiplayer and my installation goes through the motions allowing me to sign up, log in and the like and then before anything else happens I get booted out saying I am not configured properly or some such message.

Now I did read that multiplayer won't work through a Linksys router. I happen to have a router between me and my ISP modem, could it be during the install that FSX didn't read the internet because of the router? Thus not loading and installing simconnect?

Thanks.

This may help:

The FSX SDK has a file in it's root folder:

ConfigSDK.exe

You should have run that program. It configures your system to the SDK.

If that doesn't work, a fix may be reinstalling the SimConnect files using the SDK's SimConnect.msi, found here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib

... or wherever you have the SDK istalled... and then runnung the above "ConfigSDK.exe".

Ted,

Guess a few questions first -

Have you got the latest Service pack from MS? SP2. Jon's documentation says that ADE 1.2 works with the latest Simconnect. Didn't understand what you meant by "ADE work but initally with an earlier version it failed ".

Are you using XP? - do you have a simconnect file in the WinSXS (windows Side-by-side) directory? I you don't, then you really do have a strange problem. You may have to ensure you can few system and hidden files.

I don't have Vista so not sure where they would be with Vista.

Just to confirm that ADE needs the original SimConnect version that came with the deluxe DVD. Ted's problem originally was the ADE could not find the correct version. We tried most of the tricks of looking for it but they did not work. It now seems that ADE cannot find any SimConnect present since the indicator in the status bar has a red background.

One test that has not been tried, I think, is to see if another tool that uses SimConnect such as TCalcX works.

Now that is an interesting utility Martin :)

Yes, the utility is very helpful to analyze problems many external tools may have connecting to FSX.

Daniels FollowMe Car for FSX is a very nice FSX addon, by the way. I have never before seen this idea realized.

Snuffy,

If you are member of the simFlight Network Forum, you can go to this post in the Follow Me Car Support Area.

Daniel has made an excellent troubleshoot utility for his great FS Addon, which amongst other things analyze your simmconnect status.

Maybe you want to give it a try.

Not a member yet that I know of Martin, but I guarantee I will be soon.

I'm supposed to be at "work" as I write this, so I'll have to wait till 1700 EST before I can download and try this trick.

Thanks for all the help.

And just to restate ... I am doing nothing other than what any of the rest of you would do to install FSX ... I put the dvd in the drive and let the autorun do it's thing.

I'm still leaning heavily toward the discorvery that multiplayer won't work with a Linksys router installed between the PC and the internet, as to why it would appear that simconnect hasn't been installed by FSX ... it obviously thinks I'm not connected to the net ... although the real time weather from Jespen(sp) seems to work. ???
