• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

OK, this is just wierd. I placed a rotating beacon on top of the KPWA tower with a simple .xml file:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<FSData version="9.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">
	<SceneryObject
	lat="35.5307892818808"
	lon="-97.6427034582982"
	alt="16.60"
	pitch="0"
	bank="0"
	heading="0"
	altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"
	imageComplexity="NORMAL">
		<Beacon type="CIVILIAN" baseType="AIRPORT" />
	</SceneryObject>
</FSData>

With "Scenery casts shadows on the ground checked, the Beacon casts a 2d image of itself on the ground rather than just a shadow.See the picture below.

I'm confused. Anyone know a fix?

Jim

I believe there is an XML tag for forcing no shadows on an object- Try this for the beacon
(im guessing no one will notice that the shadow of the building doesnt include the beacon)

Thanks for that Timmo but no. If this is a known SP-2 problem I'll just animate my own and check the volume shadow. If it's not a known SP-2 problem, it should have a codeable fix to make it act the way it should.

Hi Jim,

I have never seen this before. Guess I should try to see if I can reproduce this.

I've never seen this before either. I added a rotating beacon to one of my towers and I didn't see this.

Did you try rebooting the machine and reloading to repeat this?

Have you seen other visual anomalies in your sim?

No other anomalies that I can see. Everything else...all 85 custom objects cast their shadows properly. Just the attachable library object sitting on top of the custom object.
