• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

hi

is it possible to make an objet that will turn about 180 degrees with the condition that the wind is between for example 280 and 100 degrees?

the objet look like that

wind between 281 - 100 indicates 01
01.jpg

moving to other position when the wind direction has changed

0119.jpg

wind between 101 - 280 indicates 19

19.jpg

thanks for help

I assume that is an animated (folding) part? If so, you can animate it (using the Tick18_) tag, and then using Arnos CAT tool, you should be able to set it to do certain things accorind to the wind direction.

I think.... :)

Yes, I think Nick is right if the object is animated. But you will have to place multiple objects, as else the wind variables don't work correctly.

If the object is not animated it is also possible, but it would require a little ASM code tweaking.

does it mean that i take the objet and use cat wind ground heading animation, and put two same objetcs in the scene? is that rigth? must the 2 objects have the same name?

Hi,

Yes, assume you add the MDL file to a library, you need to place that library object at least twice on the screen. So from each heading that you approach the object two of them must be on screen.

hi

it works thank you very much :wizard: :teacher:

i take some screen so you can see it

here there is no wind (look at the control tower)

FS9%202006-06-25%2015-29-00-09_redimensionner.jpg

then i modify the wind to to 273° 16kts (look at the windsock) the animation works :D

when the wind is between 280° and 100° it indicates 01 ;) :D

thank you

Glad that worked! :)

Hey, that Windsock looks cool! Would love to see that in our shared library! :)

the windsock comes from P.Dumat it's in a pack of API for FS.

here is the link where you can download it (the windsock is called "mancheair1" and "mancheair2", one is with a grey post and the other with a red and white post)

http://perso.orange.fr/p.dumat/zip/macrofpl.zip

you can also download a little bush that is "wind active" taht you place near the windsock, so you have your two objets in FS ;)

here is the link to that object http://perso.orange.fr/p.dumat/zip/vent.api

that's all

Excellent. I wonder if I can use this in payware scenery?

Hi Nick,

Ce fichier est mis à disposition gratuitement (selon les règles du "freeware")

My french is not that good anymore, but I think the readme mentions that it is for freeware scenery only.

Btw, has anyone seen a good windsock in the new MDL format? Personally I would prefer that over an API macro.

I have to agree :)

I am happy to animate it Arno, if you can code it and texture it.

I could create a nice LOD model.

hi

yes it's freeware, i've get some english freeware indication this is the translation of the french version

"This software is FREEWARE - you don't have to pay anything for it.
Any commercial use (including upload to a pay-to-enter site and any other use in wich a money exchange is involved) IS PROHIBITED without the author's permission.
Also any repacking, reworking or any kind of manipulation of these files is not allowed."

Hello Everybody,

Arno : I agree it's better to convert old apis to the new format. This one has been made with FSDS2 and some preprocess... with FSDS3, the same file seems to work fine in fsds

but give strange result in fs

I am going to try to adapt this model : I think it will need individual models and some manual tweaking...

grim reaper68 : please, do not put direct links for downloading files.. I prefer links to my personal pages that make things more clear ..

Hi Arno,
Hi Nick,

I thought you have solved the windsock-problem long time ago in the new format. If not, I can give you mine, which is made with the hints in the tutorial (for animation and wind dependency in the "windmill"-example).
I have three stati: no wind/medium/hard wind so I made 3 MDL-Files
it works great, but don´t know if it is a good windsock in your eyes.
You find a picture on my homepage:
http://www.flightport.de/html/marburg_3.html

If you have interest, I can post the files here when I am home again this evening.

Regards

Jörg

hi Pascal72

i've take the direct link for the people who don't speak french, there are a lot of them on this forum, i just try to help the people. sorry :o . do you want that i remove the links on my post?

just one information i'm using scenegenX for the object placement, you can place mdl object or api and it works fine ;)

I was more thinking along the lines that you would make a cool animated model and that I would do some tweaks to let it rotate and interact with the wind :).

I think you have hit a known bug of FSDS3, I have seen it with some of my models as well, when I tried to convert them. With some ASM code tweaking it should be possible to solve this. If I can help with that, just let me know.

Yes, I have the technique figured out completely, but I am just not that good in making a really cool model (to lazy for that I guess :D). So if someone has a cool model, I would be happy to help with all the wind tweaking. It should very well be possible to make one MDL file for the windsock (so for all wind conditions).

Hi Arno,

I got the work finished for my windsock. It is animated for the medium and high wind and it rotates to the wind. So I just did what you wrote in your windmill-story.

I am not yet at home but will post the mdl/xml-file when I am back. You can take a look and decide.

Joerg

Sounds cool to me. I am happy to help with the animation if anyone wants?
