• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Would doubling RAM size help?

I currently have 8GB RAM on my pc. I can work with about 1/2GB of ground photo scenery before SBX crashes. If I double my RAM to 16GB would I get more capacity out of SBX? Maybe 1GB of workspace?

Also another question... can I put in the SBX .ini file a different path to have the 'WORK' folder located on a different drive?

thx,

Clutch

The ini file has a place for:

BmpDir=C:\Program Files\SBuilderX313\Tools\Work

I could change C to E...

Did you know, you can copy the whole SBuilderX folder to the E drive, and run SBuilderX from there, and it will place the work in the Work folder there? You might want to delete the ini file ( SBuilderX will build another ).

In other words, you can have multiple copies of SBuilderX in different locations at the same time.

Hello:

Since SBuilder's own support forums at PTSIM have not seen a "public" reply by the author of that program since some time earlier in 2011, I don't know if there are any contra-indications he (Luis Vieira de Sá) might have otherwise expressed relative to a SBuilder executable "LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE" attribute edit, and a 32-bit Windows USERVA modification I proposed here:

http://www.ptsim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7250

I'd be interested in feedback from others as to whether this may help to a significant extent with address space limitation problems which have been reported when working with SBuilder; ideally one can set SBuilder (as a 32-bit application) to utilize more than 2GB address space per task session ...as discussed in threads linked via the PTSIM forum thread above.

Hope this helps ! :)

Hi,

Not sure if it also applies to SBuilderX, but with my tools I have has problems with certain external DLL files and 64 bit. So just making the EXE use more memory might give trouble when a DLL is called that can not handle this.

Ah, thx for the replies. Guess it's time for an SBuilderX upgrade! (hint-hint).

Great idea Dick, I will try a 2nd install on my other "project" drive. Perhaps setting the 'Work' path would also be good for that upgrade that's coming, :p

You don't really need to reinstall... just copy the whole SBuilderX folder with all the sub-folders... you could delete the INI and also the tile folders... they will then get rebuilt for your new projects. I tested this on WindowsXP 32-bit... you may need to fool with it a bit to get the same results with Windows7 64-bit. Let us know how that works for you.

To follow up Dick,

As you suggested, I just moved my entire SBuilderX folder over to my other drive (and all 13GB of project data!). Let it rebuild the .ini file, checked my paths and plugged away! Seems to work just fine :)
