• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Wrong dds format

I am using the latest development of Model Converter X in Windows 10 and like it very much but I have a problem when exporting the dds textures. Instead of being exported in a DXT5 format they are all exported in the 888-24bit format. I am sure there is something I need to change in the Options but I can't figure out what. I have to use convimx to convert them which is time consuming. Please tell me what to do in Model Converter X.

From where are you exporting them? From the material editor or differently?

I would always expect them to export with dxt compression.

From the material editor. I have not to my recollection had this problem before. I save them in the Material Editor as DDS files so that they are readily usable in Prepar3D airports.

As a test, I put my folder with Version 1.70 on the desktop and started Model Converter X as the administrator. Then I imported a hanger file. Created a special folder to save the DDS files in. They were all saved as DXT1 in this folder NOT 888 24bit as the latest development version is doing. Also, I forgot to mention that I am unable to use Version 1.80 on my computer. It will not open which is why I updated to the "latest development". Has anyone else had this problem with Version 1.80? I I DID like the ability in Version 1.70 of being sble to select whatever folder I wanted to save the texture files to not just the object file or texture file selections in the latest development. I thought that maybe because in the Options of Preferred Simuilator 1.70 had never been changed from FSX to Prepar3D V4 so I changed that but it still saved from the Material Editor in the DXT1 format.

I'm on vacation now, but when I'm back home I'll check if there is a bug in saving the DDS files.

You should still be able to select where the textures go in the editor.

Just to make sure I try to reproduce it correctly, from which format are you converting the textures to DDS?
