• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 X40 (KINF) Inverness, Florida

I've added some models and done some work on the PR/autogen since my last update but I don't have anything completely finished and ready to show off yet. Release is a ways off yet unfortunately, summer has gotten in the way! Actually I did a little modeling last night so it's not completely dormant. I have a full year's worth of beer drinking/barbequing to get taken care of in a very short North Idaho summer so I really need to make hay while the sun shines :) .

No plans for a next airport just yet, I will say that I'm missing my mountains a bit so I'm leaning towards a mountainous setting. Ground photos would be a big influence :) . I'll take a look at KFPR, I've got quite a bit to do at Inverness yet though.

Jim
Thank you Jim !

LMAO at the subtle hint there Ztimbre, lol. Yeah I know, McCall is always in the back of my mind, I certainly haven't ruled it out, but at this point I think the Dew Aircraft building is about the only thing salvageable from the old thread, everything else is looking pretty dated these days. BTW, remember the ole Chevy? The Orange County Sheriff/Aviation Unit is headquartered at Inverness and there's a cop truck visible in google streets so the ole Chevy got a set of cop lights and a Sheriff paintjob:

...well theirs was a Ford, but this'll have to do.

I looked at KFPR and O22 last night, both look interesting, ollyau I really like O22 especially with the reservoir and the mountains nearby. If absolutely nothing else I need to do some flying in that area one day soon, thanks for the tipoff.

gcltlee, what the heck is with the 10 mile taxiway out to the runway north of the airport at KFPR? It almost looks like that was a separate airport out there in earlier times and KFPR sort of absorbed it? It's not in default FSX/P3D BTW, I'm seeing this in SBuilderX/google/VirtualEarth. Is that where ground control sends you for takeoff when you're on the s-list, lol? So do you normally live in Ft Pierce or just there going to flight school?

I appreciate the compliments everyone :)

Jim

Hi Jim,

I absolutely remember the truck. Looks like you've ditched the diamond-plate bed box as well... glad to see you are getting some use out of the model. :)

Great work!

Also, my suggestion for a future airport is Ramona (KRNM). It's in Southern California and is in a rather hilly area. It also has a CalFire base and I'm sure many would appreciate having another airport with one.

I have a few pictures of aircraft I took a few years ago that might show buildings in the background, but my supply is limited. I could potentially get some photos if you wanted to pursue this airport, as I live about 20 minutes away. I had wanted to do this airport myself, but I don't have the time.

Thank you Brandon, I will certainly check out KRNM. If you're local to the area and willing to help that has a huge impact on my interest. I'd probably wait 'till Orbx releases SoCal before attempting this, may as well have the best canvas available before beginning the painting, lol! Thanks! :)

Jim

I'd second the request for Ramona, but I would want it as I remember it when I was a kid. Pinkerton Aviation was the FBO, and I recall the lobby there. There were so many model planes hanging from the ceiling that they were bumping into each other! That airport was where two of our homebuilt planes made their maiden voyages from, and I frequent it often when I fly the sim. I use the SoCal Megascenery which would probably be a better match than Orbx. I can see my house using it!

I had no idea that Orbx was indeed doing SoCal. They've actually confirmed this? I kind of disagree with using Orbx as the base, as it seems that they are bad about capturing the actual look and feel of many places (everything is too green...just look at NorCal). Blending some high-res photoscenery for the area with Megascenery or FSX default would be the best route IMO.

That must have been quite an exciting time to be into aviation! All I'll ever know is the current Ramona, but I still very much enjoy going there. Even the town itself is quite laid back and simple when you're out in the not-so-populated areas.

Sorry guys but I don't do MegaScenery, they run resample while they sleep on public domain imagery and charge a fortune for it, they have the FS community convinced that autogen and seasonal variation is impossible on photoscenery which we all know is complete bullsh*t and they're just soaking the FS public for laziness. Sorry, I refuse to purchase it or support it in any way, I bust my a$$ to get things right, the base I build on needs to be from someone who isn't afraid to put some effort into what they do.

Agreed.

Nice work on the airport.

I thought I'd show some pics of my current project which started with a request over at flightsim.com. This is X40 Inverness, Florida, ... so these are all from P3D2 so far....

Thanks for looking!
Jim
...not just nice...

Incredible work Jim!

.....I am still struggling with my lil stinking creek area

....so much to do, so much to learn....

you seem to know your way around textures...would you mind looking at the farmhouse composite and tell me why the barn is blue in , my P3dv2.3 and in the vid here, p3dv1.4,
just fine. I've tried dxt, bmp as dxt1-5, and dds and I cant seem to get the barn texture to work. (as fine as it goes, because I ounder-did the detail, for the sake of performance. If you still use GMax, I might go back to it to make my structures look as good as yours do.

Thanks for the kind words Chas :)

On the blue building the only thing I could think of is maybe you somehow added a blueish specular color in the material settings? I personally use all .dds textures either DXT5 or DXT1 depending on the alpha channel, I do all the converting with Imagetool directly from my Photoshop .psds, and their both the same between FSX and P3D2 except that I use the FSX version of Imagetool for the FSX textures and the P3D2 version for the P3D2 textures. I really don't think it matters which Imagetool you use, I just have them programmed into a batch file that way thanks to OCD.

Jim, this scenery looks amazing. Outstanding work sir. Being from Central Florida, I'm looking forward to this scenery!
