• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Y axis Problem animating my Jetway

I animated a jetway in Gmax for my Pasco V2 Scenery that I am currently working on. When animating on the Z axis only, the rotation towards the aircraft...all the parts work perfectly. Now when I try to add the Y axis to go vertical, to position the jetway with the door height it works in Gmax. But when I create the mdl and add my conditions with cat compile, the bgl the model is completly apart. The wheels at the head of the jetway, and the stairs are way out in front. Whats going on here and what can I due to fix it? I have watched the tutorial alot but it does not talk about this issue. Here is a picture to show what result I get after adding the Y vertical axis.

Linear prs

Are you using a LINEAR PRS animation controller?

Ok, not really sure I followed the steps out lined in the FS9 Jetway animations video. I am using a helper box at the the main pivot point. I then link all the parts together via the link tool and make my animation movements all works fine until I try to add the vertical movement.

Select your object thats animated.
Open motion parameter next to hierarchy.
Open assign controllers and make sure position and rotation is set to linear.
If not, open the assign controller (green icon with black arrow pointing to the right) and choose linear from the list on both the position and rotation.
You can also set it to default so all animations you make will be linear.

Had some wicked animation before I learned about this :D

OK, Just tried setting all parts that are animated to linear (Position and rotation) I am still getting the same result as before. I am wondering if I should set Linear to the objects that are giving me the problem only?

Found the awnser: It was in the way it was linked if done in the wrong order the parts will not line up.

It's importent to link the child to the parent and not the other way around :)

jetway

Yes,

I think that's what happened I had the parent child out of sequence. I did actually decided to build my own Gmax jetway witch has a straight forward parent child relation ship witch works perfectly. I also followed your advice on making the model linear just to be safe no problems all worked well.
