• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

yet another flatten issue

hey all,

I've noticed an issue using FSX_KML to flat an area the flatten area is about 1 meter higher than the value I entered FSX_KML in the elevation field. I'm using SP1 sdk, had same issue without SP1 sdk and didn't try with SP2 yet

here are 2 examples:

Flatten value is 282 meters, airport is at 282.2 and in FS I get the land flat at 283.1 causing this step around the rwy in SP1 and the rwy underground at SP2.

same issue here:

I could just reduce the value by 1 meter for all the flattens but I'm trying to understand if its because I'm doing something wrong or is it just an FS \ FSX_KML issue

I have noticed that if you enter a decimal elevation, FSX_KML will round it.

Therefore, if I need a fractional elevation, I always manually edit my kml file (with a text editor) to give the poly the exact altitude I need.

Keep in mind--your Airport elevation must EXACTLY match your underlying flatten or else you'll have all sorts of problems.

Hey Mace, this is not the issue here. As I've written, the value for the flat in FSX_KML is 282 meters, the value showing in FSX is 283.1 meters, 1.1 meters higher than it should be from the flat bgl.

I see where you are getting... now that I'm checking in the afcad it does say the alt of the runway is 281 and not 282... thanx

I had a similar issue (but unrelated to me taking a Z reading from the aircraft haha)

I created my flatten in GE and set the airport height to the same value in FSX planner. The result was the flatten was slightly higher than the taxiways/runways (or the airport was slightly lower depending on which way you look at it)

Im not sure if this is a problem with the GE poly, FSX KML or FSX planner???

I ended up forcing the terrain down by drawing lots of empty 'paths' in FSX planner....not the nicest result so it would be good to figure out what is going on.
