• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Ive seen and read many post on hear regards to people trying to get there animations to work accordingly. I have been devolving since FS9 why is FSX so difficult.

I have 3DS max 8, I have made it to the point where I export my model threw file - export not threw ace tools. After the export I get two files XANIM / X I click and drag the X file over the X to mdl, to convert it. I then put it in flight sim and nothing moves my animations are frozen at there final frame.

I'll I need is some one willing to go through this process A to Z with me once and I'm going to make a dang good tutorial and post it on here. I would have had an aircraft done a year ago if I wasn't running into this problem. Thanks in advance.:D

Hmmm?

STILL NO GOOD? As far as im concerened everything looks good I followed the instructions. CMD opens nothing happens however.

This is the error I get.

'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

C:\Documents and Settings\Airgyro Team>

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /K C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax8\FSX_Tools\xtomdl.exe /XANIM /DICT:C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax8\FSX_Tools\modeldef.XML > buildlog.txt

I think I am going CRAZY!

Ok so I hope its not a figment of my imagination but I do believe before I left for work tonight that I did finally get one animation to finall follow through so we shall see. I will post back with ethier the problem or a A to Z tutorial. Thanks in advance again.

Sorry to hear about your stress on making animations work.

I hope you cut through it and find out what the issue was.

(Makes me fear to buy Max, as I was planning on getting it to make planes with).

Max

I'm so ready to be off work so I can get back to testing. MAx is an extremly great program for making airplanes I can make a full blown aircraft with VC in a matter of hours with hardly any defect in FSX other than the animations dont work. Other than that 3DS Max is extremly great. recomend it to anyone. Its a lot like G-Max so if you can handel that you'll be alright.

Your problem is simple: SPACES are not recognized in the path specification! The clue is the error message...

The solution unfortunately is not so simple. You've installed Max into the "C:\Program Files folder...

...so your command string for export will never work because of the SPACE between "Program" and "Files..."

All batch files (which is all the desktop shortcut really is) use the ancient SHELL32 wrapper, which simply does not allow SPACES. Period.

Reinstall Max to C:\Autodesk\Max8, and then make sure that the path you are exporting to in the command string has no spaces.

The old DOS commands (yes, I date myself) work fine for me with spaces provided you place the parameters in double quotes, such as "c:\program files\blah\do something.exe" /c /make_greatness.

Another trick you may use in command files is to use environment variables using the

setlocal
set blah=this very long command with spaces

followed by

make %blah%

That should work too. All in all, it certainly is easier to use no spaces.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Etienne

Can I just say thank you to you all and thank you FelixFFDS for making me recheck the only place that errors were happing with out even knowing the exact origin of the error. Thank you all again and I will soon have a now brainier tutorial out. a Link is soon to come.:D

My animations are working perfectly now, I had to keep on playing with target to get it to finally export properly.
