• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fokker D.21 fighter for FSX

Hi all,

Beta testing is busy now, at the moment I'm working on invisible improvements. So I decided to create a small flight report, that is a part of it.

We're flying at Ameland today. Weather is Real-world weather.

I'm already above the clouds (around 15000 ft) when I decide to start a report. So we start with this picture. The blue flame at the exhaust is visible, due to the hot engine. The Blenheims (which used the same engines) were equipped with a flame-damper.

This is what it looks at four o'clock. At the right you can see the battery.

We start a dive, to get below the clouds and eventually land at EHAL. Make a flick roll and dive on. The D.21 was very good capable of diving flight, 700 km/h was an achievable speed during the dive! Having 302 kts indicated here.

That's the way it looks from the outside. Nice uh?

cld_04.png

The island of Ameland starts to shape in my windscreen. And I can look through the Goertz gunsight.

cld_05.png

I still like the NL2000 scenery a lot. The 213 over Ameland, but not yet HuBoBe. HuBoBe means Huisje Boompje Beestje, literally House Tree Animal. It was an extreme low-altitude flight which Dutch pilots did to get rid of the Messerschmidts in May 1940.

Tower EHAL got met in sight. This model displayed is LOD100. I've got LODs 400, 100 and 5, which work perfectly.

Landing configuration with braking flaps! Speed is correct now and one can see the open slider windows. It's quite hot today!

cld_08.png

Touchdown with a nice threepoint landing!

After taxiing back to parking, I open the left canopy and shut down the engine.

That's it for today! Thanks for watching ;)

Thanks for your responses!

Currently the beta testing is calm but fine. So I decided to start working on the early D.21 version as it was delivered to the Army.

I'm sorry for not having any screenshot yet. More details of the differences can be found at my blog.

Regards!

And now I've got a pic for you, showing some differences with respect to the war version. Also can be seen the nice combination of specular and bump effects.

looking godd! your a right rudy tease though!!! :banghead:

A what?? ;)

Changed the look of the early version's pilot, since there are pictures of the delivery of the 213 with a white-capped pilot in the cockpit. So this pilot has a white flying cap and a pair of glasses.

I also made a short trip around the airfield of Teuge, The Netherlands. Just taking off and playing HuBoBe with these cows.

A typical Dutch view: tricolor, Fokker and green flat scenery. Still like the NL2000 expansions!

And the field of Teuge below.

I've done quite a few little jobs and improvements recently, but the latest is... the custom environment map!

There you go!

And close-up to the compass

I did this because I didn't like the default one and because this is a typically Dutch scenery.

Regards!

Hi all,

Another beta has been sent to my testers. Since I had a bit of time, I started working on the Danish license built version. I can't really show pictures, but the main differences are:

- Different gunsight
- No standard landing lights
- No weapons
- Tiplights moved
- Large landing light right
- Landing gear strut protection cover removed (was also in real, because snow was gathering there)
- No radio antenna
- the inside of course has even more differences!

Until now, the external model is done mostly and the VC is being worked on.

Now you're just being nasty, lol ... :p

Well, I was a little bit confused by the various versions that Denmark seemed to have. I decided to make the 'late' version, with the blue, green, brown camo. I believe they were built in Denmark. The first two airplanes of type Fokker D.21 of Denmark were built in the Netherlands and are very different from the Dutch production version. They have more in common with the Finnish version and were painted in alu colors.

Please, if someone does have any insight in the Danish D.21s, please inform me. I'm now building the described version, but I understood that almost every plane was different.

Really nice!

One thing I wanted to ask: Are the "rucks" at the back of the fuselage are modeled or bump-mapped?

Thanks for the response and your question!

The bumpy metal is just bump mapping (in fact, it's derived from rippled water).

The fabric covering effect is a combination of both modelling and bumpmapping. In Blender, one can shade surfaces Smooth or Flat, so I choose the sides of the fuselage to shade Flat. Split the edges. Later, I applied bump mapping that emphasizes this effect and also creates the effect of 'a cloth over a lat'

Well, with the estimated colors, I created this. This has to be the J-50, but is still in early stage of painting.
If you look at the two BW photos of Danish camo Fokkers in this post: http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/ai...l-danish-naval-aviation-31629.html#post863617 it looks like the camo is a bit darker overall, particularly the green.

The various colour depictions one can find (the scn.ru link i posted earlier) suggest the same, but as they are not photos, it's hard to say how reliable they are.

In all circumstances, it's a lovely looking plane!
