• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

This is a little project that a friend and I were working on (his home airport), but my life priorities changed. I wish I could do this full time, but it consumes my thoughts and my sleep time. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about.

This is a few years old, and a lot of the things we were adding to this scenery are now part of some really nice payware airports. I love 3D work and I was only interested in advancing the sim, so it's nice to see this all coming to pass. I was developing all the 3D objects, autogen, lighting, and my friend was working on the ground textures, nav, etc. The hanger door had multiple LODs that would allow it to smoothly transition open as you approached. Animated grass, flowers, seasonal textures, etc. It also had .5" per pixel base textures.

This is by no means finished, not even beta. I've had it on my hard drive for a few years and I don't think it will ever be complete, but I thought I would share. Hope you like.

P.S. My project buddy took all the models and ported them to X-plane and developed a pretty decent scenery from it, minus the photo realistic base.

Thanks for looking!

Absolute brilliant work, but such a shame for letting it sit on your computer, never to be appreciated by fellow simmers.

Come on mate, if you really not going to spend any time on this project anymore, then make it available to someone who would use and appreciate it as it is, because frankly what you have done so far is pretty amazing.

i have seen absolute crap, released to public.

Holy cow - that is amazing modeling. Hope you're able to finish it some day, would love to fly there.

Your hangar interior modelling is especially fantastic, it blows my meager attempt out of the water! :)

This is AMAZING! I've been to this airport a few times myself! I can't wait for this one!

jgplanes, see how many people already appreciate it. Please mate, we really hope you finish and release it. Would be awesome flying here.

Great work. I believe many simmers would like to see this project finished. I spent an item on my blog and received several emails concerning this question. Let's hope for the best. Your work really looks stunning.

I dug up the bgl files, dusted them off, and added them back into flight sim for a quick flight. Forgot how fun this was. Once again, it WAS a work in progress, but still pretty IMHO. Here are a few more unedited shots for your enjoyment. :)

does this means there is a possibility for a "release' at a stage. As I said, would be shame to put such an awesome scenery on the backburner not finishing/releasing it.

Thank you for the kind replies. Due to your encouragement, I have decided to take this up again, but only as a hobby when time permits. Maybe someday, full time? #dreaming

Over the past couple weeks I have been able to complete all the seasonal textures, and I feel that I could release this in somewhat of a completed form, if I had to now.

There are still a lot of things I need to do. But, it is a very fun place to fly around, and is very enjoyable in it's current state. There is however a long list of things I need to add; runway/taxi polys, grass, fuel pumps, fence, etc.

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement, and stay tuned for updates!

Now for the progress shots...

These are only summer shots, and I'm still tweaking the autogen, but you get the idea.

for the trees, do you place one by one or using tools to make it randomize?

Xbuddy,

If you're asking do I randomize the type of trees; no, I just used the corn and beans cropland region so it blends with the autogen.

If you're asking do about the placement; I use the autogen annotation tool in the SDK for tree placement. I wasn't satisfied with the poly vegetation density in the large areas, so I placed every tree by hand. I still would add some trees, and there are a few that are out of place or sized wrong, but it is very hard to hold them to shape without placing and sizing them individually.
