• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aerofly 2 Released; Beta; Steam Games

I know that Arizona is a rocky place, but there can't possibly be rocks big enough to live under...

(Sketchup has been popular for designing scenery buildings for FS9/X/P3D for ages.)

There's even a large repository for prefabricated models:

And rocks:

And SU can even make rocks big enough to put a whole airport inside, a rock John Travolta would be proud to live under.

Finally was able to take off and land, repeatedly in the Short last night. So I tried to take off (again) in the Pitts. Its been horrible for me. No takeoff has occurred yet. But last night, it happened. I even did some successful touch and goes in it. What a squirrle

y thing it is on the ground. Goodness..

You've been flying too many tubes lately Bill, getting rusty! Rather like a recent comment on the JF Mosquito having massive torque steer on takeoff. That said more about the pilot, who was unused to warbird taildraggers. There are some which need full rudder trim and early rudder input or they skid sideways into the scenery before they're airborne.

Practice, practice! (and that is a fine model...)

Roger that. I heard that you could cork screw a P51 into the ground if you pushed the throttle to full when taking off. So much immense torque.

Yep, I know all about the rudder thing and the gyro effects of the prop and torque. My present project is high with this 'blank' effects. sigh... In Aerofly 2, for some reason, my Saitek is extra sensitive with these two tail draggers. Just 'thinking' about adjusting the rudder sends me into the weeds...

. . I realized... you were pulling my plunker

In Kazakhstan we say - 'Man who pull plunker of other man..."
....

;)

That Pitts looks the bees knees BTW. It would be 'nice' to have a video of it in action.

Love this video. The building detail looks pretty good, especially around 1:24

The above video is one of the reasons I'm attracted to Aerofly! What a bright, open and inviting world to fly in.

One of the reasons I keep bouncing off of X-plane despite its growing list of technical accomplishments is that the world it presents is such a 50 shades of light and dark gray sort of place. (except at night!)

I think a lot of people are going to be attracted just to the sheer beauty of this sim.

A lot of aircraft and pilot losses in wartime can be attributed to takeoff or landing accidents. Just make sure that you have adequate control authority before you apply full takeoff power and you'll be fine most of the time.

New from Ipacs regarding more high resolution scenery areas:

ipacs aerofly [developer] Jun 15 @ 3:36pm

As a rough summary to all the replies here: (on the Steam Forum) People really have different tastes. As it looks now, we will leave the base package almost as it is and offer the DLC with more high resolution images. As a separate DLC we will consider offering higher resolution images world wide. They won't be as high as the images around the airports, but you will still see more details.

Thanks HiFlyer!

HiFive!

Here's part 2 of Jeff Favignano's review of Aerofly FS2. Jeff as you may know is a qualified pilot and MSFS/X-plane enthusiast, so it's quite interesting I reckon to hear his thoughts on this sim. If only he'd talk less and give the engine sounds a chance!! ;-)

I saw that. I can understand how as it would be a monstrous download, but at least we can add the high resolution. I am addicted to this. I flew an hour last night over Northern area's of San Diego, flying through a canyon north of Ramona that I never knew existed. I wish it was better resolution in the ultra low resolution area's, but Im thankful for what I do have. I just fly higher and it looks better.

What bongles my mind is that when we tried this with FSX+Google Earth, frame rates were like 7 FPS. If we tried this with one state of photo real scenery, it was like 90 Gigs of data for scenery alone. But in this sim, you have photo real scenery 'and' its only 30 Gigs of total App footprint. Well, 30 Gigs to download, rather. (I'm thinking download sizes, like 90, 30, etc). When they unpack, I am sure the package is much more huge on the drive.

Isnt XP something like 60 Gigs for the maximum package? And that isnt even photo real.

I hope they do Colorado. That has some spectacular scenery in it. Durango, Pagossa Springs, Canyon City, the plains, the Rockies, Denver... East Coast around Boston, Martha's Vineyard, etc, would also be nice. As well as Germany, England, Italy, France, etc... (EDIT: Washington / Oregon would be nice also).

Some airports I hope they put in are Deer Valley, Scottsdale, and Glendale in Phoenix. Maybe Gateway as well. Then Ramona and that airport just East of Montgomery (I forget its name) in San Diego.

Last night I flew around in the Short. What a wild plane. The model is so flawless, it makes me sick. These guy shave pushed the envelope so far on model quality, its scary... I love to go nuts on Polygons, but I didnt know you could get THIS DANG NICE!!!!! Some parts look molded, no notchiness present. My mind starts getting lite headed thinking of the mesmerizing amounts of polygons involved. And still, they can have this many polys in planes, photo scenery, and have smooth frame rates, which is what I was talking about earlier in this post. We couldnt run photo scenery well on FSX. It was hard on it. But this sime is like its built to run all these things and run it smoothly... Incredible....

Oh, I was talking about flying the Short on a semi long journey. No autopilot. Breath and you are climbing or diving. Look left and you turn that way.. As you breath, you are climbing and diving. Just think of moving and it does it. Ultra sensitive. I couldnt imagine flying the real one for 5 hours or more. I would be exhausted by the time I landed. Great for aerobatics, but man, what a input-monster. Beautiful model.

Whats a shame though is that these "experienced" reviewers struggle a bit not to put this early access program and its default planes squarely in competition with 30+ years of Microsoft and third party development, and years of 3rd party airplanes that often cost nearly as much as this entire program.

Some reviewers keep this in mind, some don't, and many hard-core people split the difference.

When looking at programs like this, Microsoft Flight, Outerra etc, I've always tended to focus not on precisely where a program is at that precise moment, but on where the technology on display could allow it to go with further development.

I see lots of promise here if the community offers its support, and not so much if the community turns up its nose because its not FSX.

We shall see!

Most of the time........ Not that comforting for somebody trying it in real life, I think! :)

Well, until you're airborne, the only thing stopping you could be a defect in the runway surface. Another popular reason for wrecked aircraft in rough environments.

A community can only work with what tools developers provide them with.

And that's where Aerofly will have to prove itself, but ideally I think, with a program still under active development, it should hopefully be a cooperative project between the developers and 3rd parties.
