• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Hey guys, is it possible to model some basic objects in 3ds max or even gmax to be used as autogen?

surely there is a way, since they are models which were probably made using gmax/3ds max in the first place.

I would really appreciate any help on this and how I go about re-modelling some autogen buildings...

All the best

There's a tutorial included in the SDK Help -- Adding a new Autogen Class. This shows you everything you need to know about adding autogen.

Ok, but I want to model some new autogen buildings etc... can i do that?

I know I can place autogen and add it, but i want to model some buildings to be used as autogen...

in this order: look in the " index" / autogen (click on ) / Library object texture sheets / and three pages downward you will see Tutorial : adding a new autogen class, good luck,

So by reading this, I would be able to model an object in gmax or 3ds max, and then use it for autogen?

I think reading just two lines you can't get any idea :p, anyway take into account that autogen is for photoreal (orthophotos sceneries), and this autogen tool disappoint me prety much, you must set the slider full right to see all your buildings,

So people know what I want to do.

I want to create some buildings and other things in 3ds max or gmax.

Then I want to use them models to replace the default autogen buildings.

I tried adding some autogen cars once into FSX. What a nightmare. Never did figure it out. The cars in FSX are called per their GUID n-numbers in their actual MDL files. Trading out a MDL file for another didnt work as the GUID's didnt match.

Its like, that is what is so cool about FS9 is the ability to totally change and modify things, and EASILY....! Mind you, they didnt have autogen cars back then.. arrgh.. though ORBX does/did. (How did they do that? Aerosoft also at their airports, complete with cars that stop at lights, turn on turn signals, and turn).

A friend figured out how to change out buildings in FS9 in autogen. Thus, he was able to change out the model structures for different ones (replacements). I do not know how he did it though. Imagine being able to place in super nice houses in FS9. That would be cool. Just imagining FS9 with super nice autogen 'everything' gets me excited... And no, not that interested in FSX. FSX is for FSX people and thats ok.. :D

Yeah, I want to make European autgen houses look like auropean houses, American autogen look like american houses etc, I just want to figure out where all the Autogen BGL files are and that would be a start.

Then off i would go into 3ds max, make some awesome and realistic autogen and then cover FS9 with it.

Lionhert, if you see this friend again, can you please ask him how he did it and where to place all the Autogen BGL files...

As long as I know this little steps, everything would be fine and alot of FS9 users would be happy, trust me.

The model bgls can go in any active scenery area, the important thing is to get the default.xml set up correctly.
