• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Autogen trees not displaying correctly

I've used the annotator to place large several large areas of a single vegetation type, however, some of the tree groups disappear when viewed from a certain angle and some groups of trees appear, disappear and then appear again as you are flying over them

Is this a bug or have I made a mistake?

No you have not made a mistake. I have experienced this on my system, but the same scenery on a more powerful system does not experience the same problems.

It seems the sim tries to hide polygons that have the majority of their area out of view to reduce load. It may also hide them when they are fully in view, and choose to draw smaller polygons instead.

There are 3 possible solutions:
- run the scenery on a more powerful system.
- use polygons that do not cover more than 1 cell. (though even then you may see a large square disappear.
- use many smaller vegetation rectangles (produced via AgenT or AutoTrees Beta).

The last method has completely solved that problem for me as the sim can choose to leave out a few individual trees instead of a large polygon full of them.

Ahhh... that sucks! :banghead:

But thanks for letting me know.

Drawing them out cell by cell will take about 3 days, and I still noticed it happening with small polygons. I'll have to check out one of those programs. Cheers.

I don't understand if it's because of my system. Yes it's old and running XP, but I'm getting 60+fps with autogen set to dense and 100+ set at sparse, yet it happens regardless.

I was wondering if it might be a bounding box problem with the autogen, like can happen with GMAX objects sometimes. It always seems to be certain polygons; whole parts disappear and reappear depending on the angle of the view.

Is this fs2004 or fsx autogen?

Then possibly your system is powerful enough. Try smaller polygons or AutoTrees/AgenT instead.

I tried autotrees, but it said it was for FS9... and I couldn't see how to use it with .bgls and I can't find a copy of agenT.

Yes, Autotrees is for FS9, but FS9 .agn files are mostly compatible with FSX.

I *think* AgenT will be MUCH easier to use FSX-wise, though I have not tried it myself.
It can be found here:
http://fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=424606
Search AgenT for more tips on how to use it.

As for Autotrees, the process involves creating FS9 textures from your imagery at a resolution of 4.8m/px, so that autotrees can read them.
Sbuilder is what I normally use to get those FS9 photoreal textures. (Covering any areas (like water) that you do not want Autotrees to cover with trees with black normally helps.)

If you are still stuck after trying AgenT you can come back here and I will try to guide you with Sbuilder and Autotrees.
