• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Breaks wont work in grass

Good morning FSD world!

My latest challenge. In my 172, breaking, using . and also plus and minus on key pad, work fine, on runways and aprons.

As soon as I get in the grass, there is no sensitivity....basically brakes dont work in deadzones.

I am using Prepar3d, in the controls/calibration there are no settings for brakes.

Can anyone please provide any suggestions.

Thank you so much!

They are most likely working... but they are probably locking up due to the low friction of grass.

You would need either a pedal/joystick that allows softer braking, or you would need a gauge to limit brake pedal throw when on grass.

When using the brake key on a keyboard you are applying 100% brakes (imagine a car where the brakes were applied at 0% or 100% only). This causes many FDE designers to reduce the brake strength to a more typical value while also locking up the wheels on the lower grip of some surfaces.

Try applying the left brake only using the F11 key (or set up your own key). If the aircraft yaws (even a tiny bit) then the brakes are working, the problem is in the grip level.

Weight and balance, surface type, wheel lock, and lift affect braking grip. If weight is not being transferred onto the braking wheels or if wing lift is reducing the weight on wheels, the brakes become less effective.
