I'd like to share some insights into my ongoing development of EDFC Aschaffenburg for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
This project has been created specifically with MSFS 2024 in mind from the very beginning. My primary goal is not only to recreate the airport itself, but to deliver a highly immersive experience that feels authentic when operating in and around the airfield.
Throughout development I've gone through many iteration loops, continuously refining assets, materials, and airport details. A significant amount of time has been spent comparing the scenery against real world references and revisiting areas that didn't meet the quality level I was aiming for.
If I had to highlight one feature of the project, it would be the custom ground surfaces. These have been recreated from scratch to closely reflect the real world appearance of the airfield, including the unique characteristics and wear patterns visible on the actual airport grounds. The runway itself also uses custom-built materials, rather than relying on default simulator assets, helping to achieve a much more realistic look and feel.
Beyond visual content a major focus of the project is optimization. While adding detail is important I'm investing a considerable amount of development time into ensuring the scenery remains efficient and less demanding on system resources. My aim is to strike the right balance between visual fidelity and performance, allowing pilots to enjoy the scenery without unnecessary impact on frame rates.
There is still work ahead but I'm excited with the progress so far and look forward to sharing more updates as development continues.
Best Regards
