• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flight Sim World

My understanding is that Orbx will be taking a more 'ground level' integrated role in FSW, which may mean that they would bypass any normal distribution restrictions. Certainly that would be the position Orbx would be aiming for, which would also explain why they are not committing to X-plane -- it's unlikely that X-plane would want to make any agreement of this sort, so Orbx would be better off going where they have more clout that the average third party developer.
Ok, so that's just what I've got in my head, from various posts and announcements, and a bit of artistic license...
If you can make a buck out of every simulator customer through some sort of distribution deal, you can't really lose. Not many developers have the same clout as Orbx, so they'll be keen to take advantage of their position. And they would probably encourage a certain level of control of third party addons, which would keep them in an unassailable position.

Time to get to work...

How much interest is there in a "Pro Mission Editor"? Will support for creating scenery and aircraft also be provided?
Jim F.

Well it's certainly a tremendously important tool if one wants to tap into the casual simmers market.

I remember you could by "mission packs" for MSFS in the (early?) 90's, but then they disappeared, so I'm guessing there must not be a real market for them.

The tools for making them were payware and also demanded a chunk of royalties. Some amazing tools that made it easy, but it became costly.

Basically, this is FSX. Same vectors and landclass system. Maybe some eye-candy with materials, but the aerodynamics will be the same system. Same AI. Might run better with a new graphics card and 16 GB memory.

The terrain/scenery engine doesn't seem to have received much attention for the initial release. The data fed to the scenery engine has had some updates, at least airports and nav data, maybe also landclass and other terrain data? Orbx textures and night lighting, but we saw those in Flight School.

The default aircraft graphics and systems appear to have a lot of enhancements, supposedly also flight modeling and weather. Strange, I know, for a flight simulator to put the emphasis on such things.

As a scenery developer myself, nothing new to see yet. Hopefully the next release. Waiting patiently for details on the SDK.

I do have to admit that I like the rain on the windscreens. The make or break factor, however, is whether its wipable or not.
