FSX Crash to desktop

Hi Jon,
I've got the scenery.cfg location where you have it, in ProgramData. The only difference between your setup and mine is that I have to use P3D's SDK, because Microsoft didn't turn it over to Dovetail Games. This is my "Program Options" screen. How does mine compare to yours? I just clicked the button where it says to compile it to Addon Scenery, but I'm not sure if that is the correct method.
Regards,
Kevin Davis

Hi raymk,
When you say, "Width," do you mean "Load at radius?" That's the only option I saw in the File Priority Analyzer. I checked my Program Options in ADE, and the Save projects to, and Compile paths are the same.

Kevin Davis
Whenever you see a table of this type with column headings you can nearly always adjust the display width of the individual columns. You have column headings LAYER ACTIVE FOLDER FILENAME etc. If you put your mouse cursor just to the left of the word FILENAME (it will change to a 'bar'), you will be able to 'drag' the width of the FOLDER column to the right so that the complete 'path' will be visible - your posted image does not show the whole path, there are ..... at the end - and you can check that the complete path is correct.
This is standard 'Windows' technology.

Duh. Sorry! Since I deleted the BGL file that I made, here is the updated File Priority Analyzer.

Kevin Davis

OK - that says there are no used addon or modified files containing this airport. This is just the stock file

OK, can you re-compile your KMKE ADE file and repeat the File Priority Analyzer picture.

And, as a matter of interest, can you use the FPA to look at any other stock airport to show which files get displayed - see my question to Jon in next post.

[EDIT] Can you check hat "Include Scenery files" is ticked.

Jon,
do we know if the Steam version of FSX has done away with the OBX files that, in original FSX, go with the APX airport files? Kevin's FPA picture only shows the APX file.

No they haven't. It looks from the screenshots that Kevin is using a screen resolution that is hiding the checkbox to include scenery objects. I guess that is unchecked in his case. This is mine (not the same airport but shows that the OBX file should be listed

Hi Jon,
Per your suggestion on Monday, I deleted the modified BGL file, so it makes sense that the stock file is the only one in the FPA. When I deleted it, the CTD's stopped.

Hi Raymk,
Here's the FPA after I compiled the airport. I also loaded a stock airport, and only the stock file showed up in FPA.

Hi Jon,
That is correct. I got a larger computer monitor for the Flight Simulator computer.

Kevin,
have taken your last-posted version of KMKE ADE file, re-saved (no changes) and compiled using FSX SP2 compiler.
Do you get CTD if you put this into \Addon Scenery\scenery (having got rid of all your other KMKE bgl's)?

Hi raymk,
Before I add the scenery into FSX with the Scenery Library menu, should I add a screenshot of the order that it is in? I believe that was a problem the first time around.
Regards,
Kevin Davis

Kevin,
providing that your \Addon Scenery folder is above (as shown on the screen) any of the stock FSX areas AND you have no other possible conflicting areas of scenery above the \Addon Scenery then there should be no problem.

Hi raymk,
Addon Scenery is set at #1. I loaded it into FSX, and it crashed yet again. It's getting compiled into the right folder, so I'm at a loss as to what the issue is here! Here's the screenshot of the Scenery Library.

Kevin,
are there any other files in \Addon Scenery\scenery and \Addon Scenery\texture?

I attach other BGL file that is very simple and should be OK on any FSX system.
Can you do the following sequence?

1. Create folders \Addon Scenery\FSSC\scenery and \Addon Scenery\FSSC\texture
\Addon Scenery\KMKE\scenery and \Addon Scenery\KMKE\texture

2. Move the KMKE bgl file to, \Addon Scenery\KMKE\scenery
3. Move the FSSC bgl file to, \Addon Scenery\FSSC\scenery

4. In FSX Settings - Scenery Library, "Add Area", KMKE, to #1
FSSC, to #2
so that Addon Scenery is #3

5. In FSX, set your aircraft (suggest default C172) at KMKE, CTD, Yes / No
6. In FSX, set your aircraft (suggest default C172) at FSSC, CTD, Yes / No

7. If Yes, in FSX Settings - Scenery Library, Disable, Addon Scenery

8. Repeat putting aircraft at both airfields, CTD, Yes / No

9. If Yes, in FSX Settings - Scenery Library, Disable, KMKE

10. In FSX, set your aircraft (suggest default C172) at FSSC, CTD, Yes / No

11. If Yes, in FSX Settings - Scenery Library, Disable, FSSC

12. In FSX, set your aircraft (suggest default C172) at any default airfield, CTD, Yes / No

13. In FSX Settings - Scenery Library, Enable, Addon Scenery, KMKE and FSSC

14. In FSX, set your aircraft (suggest default C172) at same default airfield, CTD, Yes / No

Will be interested in your test results. Good luck.

Hi raymk,
I followed your steps except for one thing. I can't figure out how to add a new scenery. I have everything in the right folder, but when I try to add it, it says, "No items match your search." The directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\Addon Scenery\FSSC\scenery The same thing happened to the KMKE folder.

Kevin Davis

Kevin,
this baffles so many people!

In Scenery Library, click on "Add Area".
Click on the "Addon Scenery" folder and click on OK.
Click on the "KMKE" folder and click on OK.
Click anywhere in the area under the 'scenery' and 'texture' labels.
The KMKE entry should now be at the top of the Scenery Library listings.
Do same for FSSC.

Hi Raymk,
I did all of that, and the FSSC one loads, but I'm getting a CTD with KMKE again. At least I know I'm not alone with being baffled by that menu!

Kevin,
pleased that you have got the Add Area bit sorted out. ;)

In Scenery Library, enable KMKE, FSSC and Addon Scenery.

If you now disable KMKE and put your aircraft at KMKE (this will now be the default FSX version), what happens?

Hi Raymk,
Here are the results of the experiment:
1. Disabled KMKE: CTD after loading
2. Disabled KMKE and Addon Scenery: No CTD

Kevin Davis
