• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

FSX Light

It's always a bit hard to exactly understand what you're trying to say. ;)

So, you got the mdl exported and it shows in fs? Just does not light at night? What did you use now? An attached fx? Or a self illuminated texture?

wel i got it exported and createt an bgl file whit flight 1 Instant Scenery, as it is a nice tool! then i start the fsX and the light was shown then i select it in the menu (Instant Scenery) but i have createt the model first in gmax to fsx there it light up at day but then i createt the same 1 in gmax for fs9. then i do the same but it dont light up but you can see it. dont know why it dont light up like the fs X one it was there for i could understand why i could get the object to light up the other day becaus i konw i had createt an model in gmax for fsX but could remember and to day i found out how and dose the same in fs 9 but it dosent work

!!self illuminated texture!!

Might be usefull to see screenshots of the different states and versions of your object. (fs9/fsx at day/dusk).

It seems to be only a material issue now. One more click in GMax or something like that. ;)

EDIT: I'm not used to FS9 mdls anymore. Not sure if you have to use a texture called "***_lm.bmp" for a self illuminated oject.

well i have been i contact whit 1 from Simwings and he told: _LM does NOT work at daytime in FS9. so i have to try somthing els
 
I think you're confusing some things.

Why do you want to use lights at day? That doesn't seem so make sense.

well in a real airport isent there only light at the runway at day then the visebilety gets low! there for i have to use it at day and cotrol it by a nav FRQ as there is no way FS object can detect low visebilety. it is only defaul light in fs there gets input from weather or somting like that as i understand. becaus if i dont find a way to get it working i have to let the object to light up 24 houers a day as that is posible and i think i can rember how becaus i have had an object that do light up 24 houers but i dont want it to do so only at low visebilety. there for i need the object createt whit Gmax for FS9 so i can use the tool from arno to give it an nav frq. as you cant give FSx object an nav Frq as i understand. it would be much easyer if i could that becaus i got an object that works as i was talking about 24 houers a day only nead an nav frq to control when it should be seen at the runway.

Ah, ok, sorry, forgot all of that after 3 pages of problems. :D

So, your problem is that all that self illuminating is only good for night time. At day I really suggest using FX.

yes self illuminating is only good for night time then you create it whit Gmax for FS9. FSX it works so i dont know why it works in fsX but it doo. yes but first i would try another thing as he say i could try

well i dont think it is self illuminating in fsx. i think it is somthing els i have done as i cant rember. becaus i got problem today whit the fsx version to and could find the problem until i found out that i have createt 2 texture whit the same name the only diference is the date of them and the one from 31 jan 09 works and the one from 10 feb dosent. so i dont konw.....
 
The reason for that will be the texture format. Open it in imagetool and have a look. ;)

That have i already done, they are 100% the same as i can se. but now i got a new plan i got the fsx object lighting up 24 houers. then i have createt the same in fs 9. then insted of create an light that light up whit an nav frq i hope i can give the fs9 object a frq to get the fs 9 object showen when you dont want light on the runway. that is the only way out now i think. hope that works!

wll do you know how to remove the shadow from Fsx gmax objects? and well i cant get the object to light up in fs9 becaus i think the problem is that in fs9 gmax you cant export the model whit specular color as i mean that it is that one i use to get the object to light up. gmax gives error then i try

Specular has no influence of lighting the object.
To remove shadows simply click on the option in the lower part of the material settings. At least that's how it works in 3dsmax.

well my plan is not good i think the runway light top dosent look good so i think i nead a litel light in the object so you can se it at distance. and maby gice that a nav frq to turn it on and off. if that can work i am happy enough. then i cant get closer i think but alright it is my first project so....
but i dont know what is best becaus some one say use effect (fx) anoter was talking about a littel light there could be placed in the object at 30 cm somthing a bout a mdl fil. so it can bee seen at distance. becaus i dosent look nice whit default RWY light now then i got a object. hope some one can help!

it would look ok if there wasent that shadow dont know why it is there but it is see the pic. well you was talking about Specular has no influence of lighting the object. that is a thing i dont understand becaus the object only light up if i use that option

Maybe someone with more GMax knowledge can help. I'm not used to it anymore it seems.
 
well i have tryed whit an fx. (effect)but it dont seems to be powerful enough at short distance it is gone like my object.

Well now it is done, the work is over. I could not get the object it self to light up in fog but it is ok as there is still the bgl light inside the object to light up. so it is only in fog it missed as the object could not light up it self at day. I got lot of help from the creater of Odense airport. The light in the object looks a bit like the default light.
Whit out his help i would not have that resault as now.
