• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Gyroflug SC-01B Speed Canard

Thx Marc, I guess you will have done a lot of sceneries before this bird will be released :D

Not really sure how much detail I should add to the exterior view panel:

I intend to at least put usual xml gauges there, for the VC I will do 3d ones.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

@Marc L:
I made this banner using gimp and playing around with some color fading and layer masks.
It needs to be uploaded somewhere else than here (e.g. fb, flickr, etc....)

Hello again,
Today it is exactly one Year since I started modeling this plane.

Sorry for the long silence around this project but there was not really much to show as I was busy with some other projects and also studying.

I kind of got stuck with this one by running out of references and knowledge about modeling techniques at some points.

The latest progress was some edge split work around the trailing edges for sharpening:

The modeling was done rather low poly while most of the parts have a two step subsurf modifier. This may cause the following weird mesh formations near corners and edges with a higher crease:

I did not want to apply the modifier at this stage because it is easier to asjust the shape like this but this does not seem to be the best approach.
Does anybody have a tip for me how to decide? Maybe a lattice modifier does better?

I hope some time I will make some more progress here and maybe even finish it. :D

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave, nice modelling! The aircraft looks very good! :)
As to your question, I believe that the subdivision modifier does two manual actionas for you. Namely subdividing and appling a Lattice (sort of). So if you would do this through a lattice you'll first have to subdivide the object manually. The onliest advantage this has is that you can decide and control the poly-count, thus getting it lower since you'll then only subdivide where necessary (which is something the Subsurf modifier does not do). So it's up to you, but I would use the Lattice and subdivide manually....

Dave, this is the first time I have seen this because I rarely go beyond the first page of a forum section. I think you're doing a very nice job putting this little aircraft together. I'm going to be following your progression now and I hope you're enjoying the learning process.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Currently I am busy studying and don't really have time for this but I will give the lattice a try as soon as I do.
Thank you all for the patience, I hope I can show you some more progress in the near future.

stay tuned,
Dave

Hoping this project is still in the pipeline, as I LOVE the Speed Canard, and have been waiting for one for years. This looks fantastic! Please include a paint kit!

Keep up the great work.

Kent

Don't worry, this project is still going but as you might see my focus is more on developing scenery than aircraft.
I still hope I get this one finished someday ;)

As for the paint kit it should be no problem to include one, no promises though. And it's obviously a long way to go before any painting can be done.
