• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA How to extrude

Assuming your shape matches correctly:

A Plane modifier applied to each side of the hull would most likely suffice

Scale the vertices in the UVW-unwrap window so that the front of the ship matches the texture.

Using UVW-face selection mode, select the faces that hang off the texture

Ctrl-B to break the UVW welds along the seam

Position the UVW faces for the rear part of the ship on the appropriate part of the texture.

If your hull does not match the shape of your texture you may come "unstuck" at this point and need to improvise.

Thanks Hcornea, the other parts more o less I can figure oout, but the hull seem to me like a mistery, very weird (according to the texture layout), I guess all those uvw mapping are exported to make the texture sheet in any editor ?. regards

texturing the hull

Well could be a little complicated the mapping of the hull, this is a plannar map, see the picture it's getting funny.

A few thoughts:

Just the hull polygons selected to apply the map?
Map oriented along the long axis of the ship? (can't be sure, but it looks end-on)
Equal dimension plugged into the map? (by default it shows the dimensions of your selected parts which is confusing, try something like 400 x 400)

Unless you have loads of overlapping polygons, this should provide a pretty clear map.

No problem, what you say, I think thousand of overlapping polygons, in many areas I see how I can delete polygons of the hull surface without problems, I meant the hull left intact. the only thing wich can be identified is the deck which appear at the bottom left corner, all the rest are tiny polygons with thousands of vertices.toough the vertices were welded. I made an unwrap just of the right hull side, this make useless all the earlier questions, so no problem ,anyway all have been going better than expected, but never do trials or take this as an excersize, now what I want is finish this ship.
Edit: All right, I made flatten map bofore go to the edit window and all is correct, I made Flatten mapping inside the editor, wich output was that of the picture, I have to fight with the idiom and polygons,I guess it must be exported as a template to make the texture to fit with the hull.
