FS2004 I seen thumbnail some show up and some don't.

What is that for MFDB.dbs filename do with? Current show 384,884,736 bytes dated 3/15/2020 my backup file was showing MFDB.dbs 96,587,776 bytes dated 9/11/2019. The location is: MSFS\FS Design Tools\Airport Design Editor 175\Global

Should I copy it to current? I don't know what is MFDB means. Let me know.

Thanks,

Stuart

Did you save the Thumbnail folder from your old PC MSFS? It looks like you did. I bet this folder is larger than the one in the new installation? I also would expect your missing thumbnails to be in there.

You need two things for them to show up, the .idx file AND the thumbnail images themselves. Are there any images in the Thumbs folder on your old computer that are NOT in the Thumbs folder on your new computer?

Tom, to be technically correct you don't need the .idx file. If you delete it ADE will recreate it. All it does is make thumbnails appear faster after the first time they are used. So the only thing you need is the thumbnail images in the Thumbs folder.

I hope that does not make things more confusing.

In your Windows 10 installation, where have you installed FSX/FS2004 and where have you installed ADE?

FS2004:

C:/microsoft games/Flight simulator 9

ADE9:

C:/MSFS/

Is that ok?

Both aren't in Program files or Program file (x86).

OK In case this was missed I will say it again.

Stuart. It appears that you very sensibly made a backup of of you ADE 1.70 installation from your old computer. If so then it contains the thumbnails that you had in that version on that computer. I want you to copy those from the backup to the new installation.

Make sure that the new ADE version is not running

Now navigate to the FS9 folder in your ADE 1.70 backup and then open the Thumbs folder inside the FS9 folder. I expect you will find that there are more folders and thumbnails in the backup that in the new version

Select everything in that Thumbs folder and copy it to the FS9\Thumbs folder in your new installation, skipping any that are already there (that is don't over write existing - it probably won't matter if you do however).

I think you already copied the .idx file that you found in the old installation to the new one.

Start the new ADE and I hope that you will now be able to see your missing thumbnails again

Stuart, I missed this post, sorry. The MFDB.dbs file contains object footprints. Don't copy the one from backup into your new installation. If you did let me know

Thanks for replied. I was waiting for your answer. No. now, what should do fix first thing? Should I uninstall ADE9 and try it again to be fresh? Everything I should install all library objects ( I know it is pain in the neck.) then try it may work again. Don't you think so?

Thanks,

Stuart

Did you confirm that you have bimaps in the Thumbnails folder that include in the name of the bitmap file the GUID for the objects you are missing images for? If they are missing, then this is the reason they are not showing up.

Stuart - have you done this yet? I can't get any further until you have confirmed whether you copied the backup thumbs to the new installation
