• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Installing Modified Airport

Hello everyone,
This is probably a stupid question, but i've been trying to correct one airport in MSFS ( should have paved runways instead of dirt )
I did all the modifications in ADE ... saved the project , I transferred all the files to Community folder , and I can't see any changes.
I noticed that it doesn't created any .bgl files.
What I'm missing ?
I'm starting a a new project from stock... I tried to start a BGL project (from MSFS) but I don't know where to find .BGL files to a specific airport.

Thanks ! !

Did you build the project or just save it?

Have you read the on-line help on how to set up a project from stock?

I opened the stock airport from MSFS in ADE, made the correction and then saved the project.
Where I can find this online guide?
Thank you!

And you’re doing an amazing job… I used to edit airports in FSX using ADE… Thank you for that ..

Where I can find this online guide?

Look in the Help Menu ?

So sorry.. I should looked there…
I’ll read this and if I have any other question I’ll let you know

Ok,
I was following the Online help, when I click Build Project, nothing happens... but saves the project...
I tried to copy the folder into Community, and I can't see the changes

OK - please check you have ADE settings correct. Are you using the MS distribution or the Steam Edition?

Building a project can take some time since the stub sim needs to be started to get to the compilers.

In your ADE MSFS installation folder look for a folder called F20. In there is a file called settings.ini. Zip it up and attach it to a post in this thread

Now please provide a copy of the project you are working with (otherwise we are in the dark) Go to the ADE Main Menu and Project. In there is a menu entry to Backup the project. This creates a zip of the project which again please attach here. The On-Line Help covers backing up a project and where to find the zipped backup.

Hi Scruffyduck,
I'm using STEAM version.
Here are the files.
I believe that the settings are correct.
The project is simple, just changed the surface of the Runway 04/22 and removed the closed runway marking.

Thank you ! !

Can I ask for one more file. In the ADE Main Folder is a folder called logs. In there are a set of log files. Sort them so the latest is at the top; zip it up and post it. Logs in the log folder look like this

These are sorted latest first and the top one is my latest. Yours will be named differently based on the date

There are two logs folders. The one inside the F20 folder ( ADE\F20\Logs) is not currently used. The one inside the ADE Main Folder (ADE\Logs) is used and contains the log I am asking for. ADE will generate logs every day so it is quite impossible to have the main log folder empty

There are a number of issues with the way that the internal sim compilers are called since SU9. ASOBO has a track record of making breaking changes without telling anyone.

ADE uses the fspackagetool.exe from the SDK to start the sim and access the bgl compilers.

From SU9 it seems that starting the sim when building is no longer silent and displays the sim startup screen for both the MS and Steam versions.

There is also a new error coming from the compilers for the MS edition which stops the build and displays an error which I am yet to really understand.

With the Steam version of the sim I was able to build the package but I am not sure how reliable it is.

In both cases (MS and Steam) it is necessary to wait for the console output display window before you can assume that the build started, ran, and/or completed successfully. This can take some minutes - most of which are taken up starting the sim

There are a number of topics about build problems already in the ADE MSFS specific forum. I am moving this topic there and would ask that you take a look at the topics if you have not already.

It may be that ADE MSFS (and other users of fspackagetool.exe) will remain broken unless and until ASOBO provide a fix.

I see…
So what are you saying is to give another try and wait to see if my ADE can actually build the project, if not, there’s no fix until ASOBO fixes?
Alright… I’ll take a look in this forum.
Thank you very much!!

So what are you saying is to give another try and wait to see if my ADE can actually build the project,

Yes. I have the latest SDK (0.18.0) and the latest Sim 1.26.5.0 (I have both the MS and Steam Editions and they behave differently)

Using ADE set to use the Steam Edition I loaded your project

Make sure that there is an Entry for Creator/Developer, Title and Description

I used File > Build Project to build. First there is a short message from ADE that the build will take time and then a dialog of Steam starting which cleared shortly. There there was a delay of some time before the build console display

This shows a good build and the package is in the Packages sub folder of the project

This needs to be copied to the Sims Community Folder while the sim is not running

Starting the sim and opening the airport should show your changes but they may not be obvious/ Trouble shooting output packages to the sim is something else and first you may want to see that you get the build.

NOTE

FS MS version users this results in something different and build error. Currently I am not able to get a build using the above method but pointing to the MS sim edition

Same result here. You need to have a creator and a title, or the fspackagetool throws errors.

I tried again…
And the Project Build doesn’t do anything…Just saves the project… and then nothing happens
Question: SDK must be installed in any specific folder?

Then we are stuck. Are you saying that you do not see the dialog window that that the build will take some time? That is right at the start of a build before any work is done. It displays for a few seconds. That must show - if not then ADE is irrevocably broken which I do not think is true.

If the dialog does display then we are looking at bad paths to the package tool.

For the avoidance of doubt you are trying to execute the build from File menu

The SDK does not need to be installed in a specific folder but ADE must be pointed to it in Settings > Options > Folders

The SDK path that ADE has in it's settings is SDK Path: D:\MSFS\SDK I assume that is where your SDK is and that is is the latest version?

The dialog window appears, but after that nothing happens…. I waited for several minutes and nothing else happened.
Yea, I’m using the build project in the File Menu.
I have the latest SDK installed and I believe that the paths are correct, I did the path check and doesn’t return any errors.
So maybe something is wrong with the folders path.

Configs : C:\Users\bdmag\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator
Content :E:\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator
SDK: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\SDK ( I reinstalled the SDK inside MSFS main folder )
