• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

Hi,
I'm not good at effect and I did search in the forum and found no answer.
I was wondering if it is possible to make an effect to emit the light just only one side. So we can use to replace bgl light and separation plane.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Unfortunately he is referring to replacing the use of BGL lights all together. So my post there will not be of help much.

Jtan, as far as I know, effects are always double sided.

Unless they are not :)

Seriously, I am not well versed in effects and lighting, but I have an idea that may work. Create a box, panel, or housing to block the backside to prevent the effect/light from being visible from that side. Its still visible from all sides but behind and object face on the one side, making it only visible from one side :)

You know what! Your idea is simple and it works like charm.

I made a guard light. In FS9, I used bgl light command and tweak that later to make the light visible only one side. Bgl light has no scale when you are far so we need to tweak the code to make it invisible from the other side.
In FSX, I use effect and attach effect to the animated box to make flashing light. Effect works much better, no need to do anything further. No any light behind the model is visible. No more tweaking any more.
May be we can use this for custom made PAPI lights.

Thats good to hear. We expect to see interesting light creations from you.

I did try on PAPI light. It does not work.
The separation plane built on Gmax plane does not prevent the light emitting correctly.
The real PAPI has lens to control the light. I don't know how to do with that.
