• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS 2024, The Sequel

In many ways, I'm excited to see what 24 is going to offer (I just want some good float/ski flying physics for once), but I'm also mildly concerned about the compatibility (something that likely wont go away until I am hands-on).

From a scenery standpoint, it seems like most things will be compatible, but I'm fairly certain there will inevitably be some platform specific tweaks I'll have to make to my products. On one hand, I see why they want to make it a separate title. Getting title sales again will definitely increase the lifespan of the sim, even though they are still making a very good chunk of change off of Marketplace. However, on the other hand it is also splitting the crowd between 2020 and 2024, and if there are any specific changes I need to make between 20 and 24, I'm now back to supporting two separate branches of a project like I did in the FSX & P3D development days. Even though that wasn't too bad because most everything just used the FSX format except for a few specifics which were easy to support since it was all done outside of the sim and in separate files. Slap it all into an installer and the file size was never much bigger since most files never needed to be duplicated per sim.

With that said, obviously I'm no stranger to supporting multiple platforms, but I will admit that it was nice to not have to worry about the compatibility of multiple platforms for the few years I've had in 2020.

Hopefully all this speculation remains just that and the process will actually be fairly painless, but we just wont know until we get there. Obviously a sim upgrade from 20-24 would be more favorable, forcing everyone to the same version, but that's not what we are getting, so we're just going to have to take it as it comes I suppose.
