• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

You are taking a FS9 model (aircraft) for which FS (P3Dv4, P3Dv3 or FSX)? Within the 1st image,... you have the FSX XtoMdl pointing to P3Dv4 SDK version, this will not work. Only use the proper version for each of the FS that you have.

I have p3dv4.. Wasn't sure because of the model which sdk to use for the XtoMDL. and I don't think I found an XtoMDL. Totally new at this.
Thank you Doug.

Well I managed to use fsx and sdk from another computer and convert the mdl to fsx and ai aircraft editor see it as an fsx model. And the model viewer works. It show up now in all its glory. Martin 404...with Piedmont colours. I am using strictly as an ai. There is just a few problems...and I am reading all the post and trying to figure this stuff out....I have attached pictures of the beauty and her ys11a cousin but a few things. The props don't turn..the cabin door and stairwell under is open and the poor thing seems lost because she kinda goes where she wants to and not following the afcad (taxiways)….She is an old old lady so we got to give her space but hey its time to come home and play right :) Up till now the M404 had been crashing P3dv4 but now P3Dv4 is ok.. Been reading but still lost. Maybe the attached text if someone will look might tell you something about the condition variables. Just a wild guess..lol.

Thanks for any help.

As I said elsewhere, this conversion is not a simple process and much more work is required to get the animations working correctly. I have never succeeded in a totally correct conversion.

Thanks Tom, yeah I know...I have been on here and reading lots of post and trying to get a handle or grip on this thing....lol.....such a beautiful aircraft...especially with Piedmont colours :) oh well. maybe it will make a beautiful static object somewhere in a corn field.

Thanks,
Bob M.

Could someone please point me so I can save in p3dv4....this is a fs9 converted to fsx and the error keeps coming up about Microsoft Flight Simulator Xto MDL.exe.......i know there are lots of xtomdl as a plugin but maybe I am not pointing to right place. I have all the sdk installed fs2004/fsx/p3dv2/3/4 but I just need to get the right one. I know that finally all of the airplane parts showed up in the animation manager but I believe the xml has only a few things in it. I am trying lol...I have a stubborn streak :)

The only problem I have as it as a ai in p3dv4 is that the front gear is messed up; the main cabin door and the one underneath is open and the poor plane doesn't know where its going. ( i know old planes can get dementia but maybe there's a doctor in the house) .lol If you look at the pic above in middle of page you will see items mentioned.

Thanks for any advice beside "forget it"

I don't know how to fix the nose gear, because you would want it to be retractable. For the others, you can:

1. Go to the Animation Editor
2. Check the relevant part(s) in the list - only the parts that are in the correct position at a certain keyframe, or just do them one by one
3. Slide the animation slider in the Editor until they are in the normal position (i.e. doors closed, etc.) and then click Fix Animations - this will remove the animation and fix them in place.
4. Export.

UPDATE: I am working thru Gavin's great tutorial... I got the cabin door shut and the lower doors shut and believe it or not the model is following the taxiway. and it just took off!!! Now the gears have disappeared and the props still aren't turning....Working on it. Now there is an xml created on my non p3d machine and I really don't know where it goes in p3dv4? Maybe the xml has my stuff. the wheels and the turning props :)

If any one interested..I stumbled into this at Alpha India and will try to comprehend some of this...

Thank you for helping out.

Thanks,:)
Bob M.

Hello Bob...

The settings within MCX (Development Release) for P3Dv4.3 (the latest) for the default installation:
P3Dv4_BglCompPath: Drive:\...\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.3.29.25520\World\Scenery\bglcomp.exe
P3Dv4_XtoMdlPath: Drive:\...\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.3.29.25520\Modeling\3ds Max\3DSM2012_x64\Plugins\XtoMDL.exe

I understand now you have a error concerning the "SlimDX.dll", in another thread..... First fix this problem: locate and have it pointing to the correct "XtoMDL" needing to be used. Then we can fix the other problem in that thread.

Thank you..It was your post that inspired me to use update direct x and that got the wheels showing but I got thecabin door open and the wheels are locked all the time when flying and not retracting and getting the propeller to turn and we are home free...LOL.. I will change setting in options and then do I resave or what...I got the latest development yesterday.Thank you!!!
The options are changed!!
