• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

P3D v4.4 MDL support

hey @arno
after i tested the idea of two diffrent materials
i couldn't export (no erros but :
i made a 20 by 20 m rectangle with a concerte PBR material with normal map and dettails ..... and above i made an other rectangle with 0.4m by 20 to be as
a taxi line with satndard P3D material, so i exported from 3DS to MCX as a .X file , no problems i read the file with MCX, checked that section is PBR for the pbr rectangle
then i exported to MDL, and ! here! i reopened the MDL and found that i lost my base PBR rectangle with pbr material and all i got is the texi line :(

Does that mean we can't export two types of material in one object ? for X file there is no problem but for the MDL i can't see my PBR rectangle
hope you answer thnx in advance :)

IMPORTANT EDIT : i tried to convert to MDL using the XtoMDL of the SDK and it worked and i could open the file in MCX but with your MCX and XtoMDL path well setted in the settings i couldn't :(
here is the line i used : XtoMdl /DICT:..\..\bin\modeldef.xml /XMLSAMPLE GP_PBR.X

Did you check if MCX set the correct XtoMDL paths for v4 and v4.4?

Hi, thanks for v4.4 pbr on mcx, but it seems that objects can't export with the 'curved earth attachment' with 4.4...

Can you explain what the problem is? I don't see a problem here.

Thank you for answer my question. if possible, this function can integration into GPW? Sorry for my poor English

Yes, it will be added to the GPW. But to get PBR output the developer would have to prepare the input MDL file to already contain the PBR material of course. The wizard can't add those automatically.

I tried it and had no problem exporting to mdl. What kind of error you get when making the bgl?

Does your final p3dv 4.4 bgl contain the 'round earth attachment'?

I am making an .x file into a p3dv4 mdl and is not creating the p3dv4.4 model correctly because it only shows the normal textures not the pbr textures.

I am ok creating the bgl for p3dv4.4 with mcx with the .x file but not the mdl and is not creating the round earth correction.

Is there something additional I need to put on options in mcx?

How do you save the bgl file?

I don't have v4.4 installed on my machine yet, so can't test the output in there.

I use the convert and place wizard.

no need to actually see it in the sim, if you open the bgl via mcx you can see it does not say it contain the attachment.

The convert and place wizard doesn't yet support v4.4. You'll have to use the export scenery option.

Yes, just realized this by reading the other thread. However, I noticed that the round earth is not attached in any case. Can you try creating a p3dv4.4 bgl and with it the round earth attachment?

Hi,

I just tested and I see no problem here with the earth curve correction and exporting to BGL.

I did find some issues with exporting the PBR material though, that will be fixed in the next development release.

Hi Arno,

thanks for the hard and tedious work you are doing for a great Piece of Freeware tool you are providing for the Flight Simmer Community! Don't let yourself being pushed by impatient People!!!!

Yes, that was posted above by another user already as well. So I have linked those two attributes now. Which means that for the GPW if you have a material with PBR materials it should export correctly.

Yes, a new version was released last evening.
