This is the setup for 3ds Max 7

Setup
3ds Max
In order for 3ds Max to work correctly with the scripts and tools of this SDK, go through the following steps:

Install and run 3ds Max 7+.
Select Customize on the main menu.
Select Customize Paths from the drop-down menu, then the Plug-ins tab from the Configure Paths.
Select Add, and then browse to the Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM7\Plugins folder.
Select Use-Path and OK, and this path will appear in the dialog.
It is now necessary to shutdown and restart 3ds Max.
On restarting, a new main menu item named FS Tools should appear, with drop down options for: AttachPointTool, LODNameTool, AnimationManager and FSCloudTool.
You are now ready to use 3ds Max to create Flight Simulator X models

Don't know how is the setup for pandasoft but could help

Blake, why do you need Panda? Unless you're modeling for FS9 scenery, you don't need it at all.

Im Modeling for fsx and i was told i need pandasoft to get it into model converter, how do i get something in model converter x without using the export as an X file? or do i use Collada? when i try and get a collada file in mcx it just dosent load and says i have a unhandelled exeption. so what is the exact software i need to put models in fsx?

Thanks,
Blake

Download and install the FREE "Prepar3D SDK" which has an export module that will work with Max2012.

http://www.prepar3d.com/support/sdk/

With that you will be able to export .x and xanim.xml files for use with MCX or X2MDL as you wish.

ok so ive installed the prepar3d sdk, i went into 3ds max and nothing seemed to of happened with exporting etc, i read the installation guide and when ran the config as admin i entered yes and it came up with red writing i could not read as it closed very quickly, how do i use this?

Thanks,
Blake

Now that I realize your age, I'll temper my response (meaning, I'll try to be gentle) accordingly. :D

There are a number of threads here that have already outline the specific steps on how to install and configure the Prepar3D SDK. That's where the "Search" button "up there on the teal colored menu" is for.

However the simple answer is that you start Max2012, then Add the path to the Prepar3D SDK's ..\plugins folder.

Shut down Max2012, then restart it. The Tools should automatically appear on your Toolbar.

and where do i go to add the path?

Blake

  1. Customize/Configure System Paths/3rd Party Plug-Ins menu
  2. Click on Add
  3. Browse to the Prepar3D ..\Plugins folder
  4. Click on Use Path button
  5. Click on Add
  6. Browse to the Prepar3d ..\bin folder
  7. Click on Use Path button
  8. Done!

Note that you may have to manually add a \ to the end of the Path using the Modify button. I don't remember if it adds it correctly now or not.

i dont have a plugins folder in prepar3d? lol sorry for all this hassle.

Right, i did everything you said but when i start up 3ds max i get loads of errors on start up saying something like failed to initialize etc?
whats happening?

Blake

Wrong Path most likely.

Should look something like this:

Max2012Plugins.jpg

*** EDIT *** Just noticed youre using the x64 program. You'll need to use the 32bit version instead for this.

how would that work? im on a 64 bit system, i think its installed a 32bit version so will try it out.

Thanks,
Blake

The screenshot above is from my (working) installation.

That is all you need.

You may (at a later point) need to edit the attachpoint folder entries ... but this is not likely to present a problem for now.

Thanks for stepping in for an assist. Since I have and use Max9, I was getting a bit "out of my depth" on some aspects of Max2012 procedures... ;)

@Blake. My advice to you is to create a simple "Box" in Max, then test out the export to .x file and xtomdl.exe compiler before investing ANY time at all in actual modeling/texturing/animating, etc.
