• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

where do i get xtomdl? i cant find it on the fsdeveloper downloads page.

It should be in the Prepar3D SDK, or you can simply use the one from the FSX SDK. Either one will work since they are identical...

P3D: ..\Prepar3D SDK 1.0.2042.0\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM7\Plugins\XToMdl.exe

FSX: ..\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM9\Plugins\XToMdl.exe

When i open XtoMdl in the plugins folder of prepar3d i run as admin and tryed it withought admin, the command prompt opens and closes in like a quarter of a second?

First of all, you really need to read the SDK documents. You will never get anywhere by just blindly clicking buttons... ;)

Every model requires a GUID/Friendly Name. You use the new Tools to accomplish this for every new project. It is only done once.

You also need to set up the System Unit Scale in Max to "1 unit = 1 meter". This is accomplished in Max's Configure dialog. This need only be done once. Max will remember your choice.

The "Mixed Materials" is a warning. Since you didn't create an FSX Material, Max will export an empty Standard (FS9) Material. Simply click "Yes" for now.

As for XtoMDL.exe, you've already been told that it is a "Command Box" program, which means that you need to send all of the "flags" that are required whenever you run the program. You can NOT drag-and-drop an .x file on it, nor can you simply type xtomdl.exe to make it work.

See this Wiki article for details on how to set up and use XtoMDL.exe:

thanks for the link but i dont have a clue lol i cant follow it its to complicated lol.

*** READ THE DIALOG BOXES ***

They are written in English!

The first two are normal. (the first one tells you that you have not used FltSimX materials)

The last three relate to the fact that you have not applied a GUID or Friendlyname before exporting your model.

You need to do this (same way as you do in FSX)

Use the ACES tools | ExportLOD | File Properties.

...

I'll leave you to do some reading about the rest.

Listen to them Blake - you need to read documents and a lot of them.

However, we all have to ask questions, but alot of your answers have already been documented very well in the Wiki, the Wiki is my favourite part of this forum 'cause it tells me nearly everything I need to know.

I HAVE asked alot of questions here as some of the tutorials are not in depth or are out of date. But I still do alot of reading and searching.

Anyway, do as they say and read up on the wiki, it does help alot. I can't give no other advice than that since I make things for FS9 which is farely straight forward... AFAIK FSX has a few more steps to go through to get a model from max to the engine.

Regards

Yes, you can't jump and skip some steps, and you can't go faster, that's for all, what are saying the prorgram is that you need export with the Aces tools, i this case prepare3d, assign a guid and check the units in configure menu, just that. they aren't really a problem. The problems sometimes is to get the programs itself work,
