• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Photoreal Fire Effect tester!!

:rotfl:
You don't want to be called Horst?

Yeah thats what i used to make my alpha channel (DXTBmp)
I think it works well and image tool is a cool program too.
I also use paint shop pro8 these three programs work well together.

Hello,

What do these parameters from an effect folder mean and how do i use them?

Damage=1,

No Interpolate=1,

Hitpoints=0.00, 0.00,

Magnitude=0.00, 0.00,

Light=1.

Also how does jitter work?

Thank's.

Nath.

Hey Nath,

Damage, hitpoints and magnitude are all parameters that are used in combat flight simulator 2 and have no use in fs9

No interpolate to my understanding is a way of adding pixels to a texture as i never played with this....if for some reason your effect texture is blurry, might want to turn this on or off...1 being on, 0 being off

Light is a parameter in which if the effect is used as a light. Again value of 1 is on and a value of 0 is off

Jitter still is confusing to me. Ive searched for the exact reason to edit these and just seems to be so many different kinds of jitter from audio to video so if i ever come to finding out what these parameters do..i'll let you know. If i had to take a guess....has something to do as how the quality of the effect is at a distance.

Also...by any chance, would you know where i could find a mpeg of a flame or fire...Ive searched and only could find one or two that come close to my needs but before i create the daunting task of creating alpha channels for many textures, i figured i would ask and make sure its something that would best suit my scenery.

Hello Dave,

What do you mean by mpeg isn't that a movie or something like that?
Or is it a picture?

If it is a picture you are looking for i know where there is heaps of fire textures for fire effects.

If it is movies i dont think i have ever seen one of them :scratchch

Just let me know when you see this and i will try to help you.

ps: I'm on yahoo now and will be all night if you can get on.

We seem to keep missing eachother on yahoo :rolleyes: .

Hey Nath,

Its a movie file. What i want to do is find a clip and break it down frame by frame, save each frame to a bmp and apply the alpha channel then reanimate it as an effect which make it even more realistic. Ive been sarching for a couple of days now and cant seem to find any to my needs so im about to create my own and record it.

Dave

An alpha channel is just a grayscale channel that can be used to define transparency, reflectivity, or whatever. I'm not familiar with PSP - I use Photoshop - but if you look at the PSP docs I'm sure it would show you how to edit the alpha channel.

Once you've edited the image, save it as a .tga (make sure PSP is saving the alpha channel as well as the visible colors), load that into DXTBMP, then re-save it as a .bmp. As for the type of .bmp: a DXT-1 will contain an alpha channel, but no antialiasing - so edges will be jagged. A DXT-3 will contain the whole tonal range - making antialiasing and soft edged gradations possible - but can sometimes cause weird drawing order problems in FS9.
