• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Polygons disappear after export to DAE

New random problem with SU. Exporting worked perfectly before, but suddenly went wack.
After exporting a project for my runway ground polygons some polygons completely disappear, as if they are left out by the exporter.

The strange bit is these polygons are part of a group on a layer called "Runway Markings". However some polys within the group show up, while others do not.
Polys within a "Dirt" layer also fail to show up.

Attached is a picture of the original project (with polys highlighted) and the exported DAE viewed in ModelConverterX (with a rough outline of where the polys should be). As you can see in the wireframe picture, its not a case of missing or transparent textures. The polygons are completely absent.

Any ideas or fixes?

NOTE: Importing the .skp file into Max 2012, and then exporting again as DAE produces all polygons, however the project is oriented wrongly and the texture mapping gets messed up a bit.
This confirms it is a sketchup export issue.

Are any of the polys set to hide in SKP?

If you reopen/import the collada file back into in SKP, are the polys there?

Yes they are all visible. As shown in the picture. Remember they are part of a group. The entire group is visible.
And they show up fine when reopened. I even open the .skp file in Max 2012 and they show up. Its when they get exported that they disappear.

I believe I have solved it.

For some reason the groups (which worked perfectly before) were preventing some polys from exporting.

So I exploded everything that didnt need to be grouped and made sure they were properly separated to prevent merges in geometry.
The polygons now show up fine. (weird)

I explode ALLLLLL models and parts before exporting to DAE in SU.

I have noticed problems with components and groups when they go to select depths within a model.

I have not done any testing to see where this limit is, if one does truly exist, as said I haven't done testing or bench-marking for the test.
