The Object Placement Tool, (OPT), is multifunctional, and can be used for placing scenery as well as creating missions.

The OPT is available on the FSX Tools menu.

Installation

The OPT is part of the SDK toolset.

Versions

The SDK is available for FSX Deluxe only.

You must install the appropriate SDK version to match your FSX version.

FSX SDK Availability Installer
RTM RTM Retail FSX RTM disk 1, SDK sub-folder
SP1 Discontinued Standalone
SP1 SP1A Download * (166Mb) Standalone
Acceleration SP2 Retail (23/11/2007) FSX Acceleration disk, SDK sub-folder
SP2 SP2 Download * (??Mb) 2007 Standalone

'*' May also be available on magazine cover discs.

Configuration

If you have installed both FSX & SDK to their default locations, the OPT should now be available from the FSX Tools menu.

If you have installed either FSX or the SDK to a non-default location, you should run configsdk.exe in the SDK root folder.

If the FSX Tools menu option is still not displaying, you may need to edit dll.xml manually.

The dll.xml file is located at -

On XP - C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

On Vista - ???

In the root of your FSX installation there's also a dll.xml file, do not edit this, it's only a default backup copy.

Working with the OPT

For the OPT to work, FSX must be running in 'windowed' mode.

Moving an object

If an unlocked object refuses to move with click-drag, you can reposition the reluctant object, with the mouse, (without click-drag).

Using Top-Down mode.

Double click in the OPT coords area. Click the FS window location you require.

Object will 'jump' to that location.

Zoom in and repeat as required.
