• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Quantum GIS does read in OSM files Arno, Thanks for all the pointers. OK, qGIS does read in the OSM files (and the coordinates look correct) that you can get exporting from openstreetmap.org site, BUT it doesn't seem to output polygons - which I think you need for house generation - but...

Any idea about map projection choice Arno, I realize that you are mostly using just GEOFABRIK data right now but I am trying to figure out a process to go from the rectangular area Export feature of openstreetmap.org to a good SHP file. I download the freeware called Quantum GIS which...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

SnapScreen of Monaco ScenProc results Arno, Progress is being made! Here is a snapshot of a Photoreal (quickly made from FSEarthTiles) Monaco with JUST Autogen (Set at MAX density) from the GeoFABRIK monaco buildings.shp Some buildings make good sense and other - mostly very large -...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

I'm getting AGN files now! Arno, Sorry that I didn't understand about having ALL the various pieces of a SHP file. I now get the same AGN files with the new "shapelib.dll" that I found with the OSM2SHP-0.2 - both for XP and W7. I will experiment with the Monaco area. Should I try the...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

Tried using shapelib from OSM2SHP-0.2 Arno, I downloaded a freeware tool to convert from OSM to SHP called OSM2SHP-0.2 and it has a shapelib.dll with the executable OSM2SHP.exe. For experimentation, I copied that into your Sceneproc.exe directory (replacing the one you provided in the...

    Support tools needed

Don't I need an OSM to SHP tool Arno, If I use the OpenStreetMap webpage, I can pick a rectangular area to make an OSM file and then I want to convert that to SHP. I have seen a couple of OSM2SHP freeware tools - do you recommend one? (if so, please point me to it) This is assuming that I...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

Here are my spc and shp files Arno, Attached are my spc and shp files that I have in the same directory as my executable and dll files (under XP - not W7). I did modify the spc file to use the FROMFILE in the CREATEAGNGENBUILD instead of shpfile= and I added a subfolder name to the...

    Support tools needed

Arno, I'm not sure which support tools are needed: 1) OSM to SHP 2) GIS tools to graphically look at SHP 3) Annotator - look at generated AGN files? For the first two, do I need them and where could I download them? I have just been downloading small SHP files from GEOFABRIK for a...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

ScenProc doesn't have any problems loading shapelib.dll with Windows XP Arno, Thanks for responding so quickly!! I don't have any problem getting shapelib.dll to load under Windows XP. However, now I get an error that seems to indicate that it can't find or read the "shp" file. Maybe...

With Windows 7 64bit, Unable to load shapelib.dll

Arno, I am trying to test out ScenProc to generate some trees and buildings. I downloaded the monaco shapefiles from GEOFABRIK and selected the buildings.shp file. My SPC file looks like the following: ____________________________________________________________ #...

Adding the landing light fan beam to models

Please explain You say you can make up your own switch. How - I don't have/want to use GMAX/MAX. Just have MCX development version. Any hope? Please explain how with some detail.

Adding the landing light fan beam to models

I forgot to say that I was using MCX to add the fx_lighting.fx to an attachpoint - and without adding a polygon, it works fine as a fanbeam - except that I can't turn it off at night. I'm also sorry that I confused some by talking about the "L" key (BTW Ctrl-L is the standard Landing Lights only...

Adding the landing light fan beam to models

I found that I can add the fan beam landing light effect (fx_landing.fx) to any aircraft model - example is the trike ultralight - using the attach point editor. However, I cannot see how to connect it to the "L key" landing light switch. I am also adding Shockwave 3D lights but they have some...

    Shadows

Still prefer the adding of shadow geometry to model for static aircraft After working with Don on SAMM 2.X, I came to realize that we are talking about two different approaches to shadows - one, the custom shadow model for FSX Shadowing enabled and the second is adding a single plane or maybe a...

    Shadows

MCX generation (and optional model addition) of shadow Arno, Glad you got our desired concept of computing a shadow and adding it to the model via simple geometry (maybe an LOD concept??) - one fellow has suggested a shallow (maybe 0.5 feet or so) pyramid - so that Z-buffer fighting would...

Using FSX simobjects (planes) as library objects

Is it possible to fix some animations at different points? Many aircraft models have different points to fix the animations for maybe just gear down but not flaps down, reversers out, cargo doors open, etc. It would be nice to fix the various animations at different points and then remove them...

    Shadows

Please include shadows Please do support the shadows since I think they are critical for making a static aircraft model look real and attached to the ground. I personally am statisfied with a high noon shadow. Here is an example that I did with hand painting the underlying image - something I...

    FSX Object Visibility Range/Radius

Thanks for considering this issue. Personally, I want my FSX objects to be visible from a considerable distance (at least 10 miles) so I don't see any popping of the object into the scene. I don't think the the small impact in frame rate of any one object - even though it might have thousands...

    FSX Object Visibility Range/Radius

Regardingthe "visibility radius" of an object, I wondered if you have any idea how that is set in a model. I was trying to add a wind turbine model to a hillside and it would disappear about a mile away. A different model would never (maybe > 10 miles) disappear. And I finally found a model that...
