• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 How to make normal maps using Affinity Photo

There is a tutorial on how to do this on the Affinity forums using the Live Lighting adjustment. There is an asset which you can download from this link: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/137255-normal-map-generator/ There is also a youtube video showing the process: But, I...

MSFS24 How are you determining if an aircraft is in the MS hangar?

In MSFS2020 there is the PLANE IN PARKING STATE parameter which returns true if you are in the MY HANGAR section of the PROFILE. When in the hangar the camera state is 15 when outside but if you switch camera it can 2 or 3. I have also found the aircraft latitude and longitude will both be...

MSFS24 Getting Logitech Switch Panel to work in MSFS 2024

There's a lot of threads and posts about this and I even watched a 10 minute video but none of them seem to have a clear explanation of how to quickly and easily get this fixed. Here is the solution that worked for me: Copy the exe.xml from MSFS2020 to MSFS2024 Problem solved. The longer...

MSFS24 The importance of file sizes in the layout.json when editing MSFS2020 aircraft.

This mad bug has nearly driven me insane this morning. I've been trying to figure out why some changes I made to an aircraft model behaviors file was causing MSFS2024 to not load the interior model (MSFS2024 does that now, if you have any errors instead of ignoring them it just doesn't load the...

    MSFS20 North American T-28 Trojan

Using some technical drawings for modeling. AircorpsLibrary has drawings (and manuals) for about 70, mostly WWII, aircraft so if you are looking for some drawings for your next project it may be worth a look to see if they have anything.

    Scam emails.

I'm sure anyone running a MSFS business has received their fair share of scam emails. 99 times out of 100 they are easy to spot but this one had me questioning things a bit as it's not something I've seen before. The title was "Seeking Clarification on Recent Card Transaction" and the text of...

MSFS20 Exterior lights pointing in the wrong direction in XBOX version (with a solution).

I don't know who needs to see this but someone might find it helpful as finding the solution to this problem took quite a while. There can be a discrepancy between Xbox and PC when it comes to displaying custom legacy lighting splash effects on the exterior model (things such as landing lights...

    Axis brake set commands problems.

The SDK says we can use AXIS_LEFT_BRAKE_SET and AXIS_RIGHT_BRAKE_SET to set brakes and gives the input and output values. Only problem is AXIS_LEFT_BRAKE_SET appears to follow the values for AXIS_LEFT_BRAKE_LINEAR_SET which is not currently supported by the sim. What this means is that if you...

    MSFS20 Fixing duplicate textures

Apologies if you already know how to do this but this is something I only learnt today and thought it might be useful. If you've ever copied parts from one project to another in Blender then you may have come across duplicate textures. This is where Blender will rename any textures you import...

    MSFS20 MSFS SU14 6.15GB update

First there was a 450MB update to the base program which installed itself when I ran MSFS (in the past I've had to go through the MS store to update the base program so its good that the program can update itself now) Then after the base program had installed itself the Installation Manager has...

MSFS20 MSFS and castering tail wheels.

Correct me if I'm wrong but MSFS doesn't really do proper castering tail wheels does it? From what I have searched in the last day or two I haven't found any solutions for proper castering tail wheels. For example, the MSFS default aircraft which should have castering tail wheels actually use...

MSFS20 Has anyone figured out what the modern prop parameters mean?

I'm talking about these specifically: prop_scalepowerabs prop_effminval prop_effmaxsmooth prop_falloffcoef prop_falloffpower prop_lowbetareduction prop_lowbetareductionmid The last one particularly is quite confusing. The SDK says this about prop_lowbetareductionmid: This parameter...

MSFS20 Wwise - Using RTPC instead of Blend Containers for engine sounds

This might be such an obscure question that it won't get answered. But is there any reason I shouldn't be using RTPC to crossfade between engine combustion sounds? I know the usual method is to use a Blend Track to crossfade between the various engine RPM sounds based on the Engine RPM...

    MSFS20 CAC25 Winjeel (released)

I spent too much time on this joke so it's staying.

MSFS20 Blender bones animations interesting behaviour with two animations applied.

I followed this video about animating the fabric cover over a control column (so it has to respond to two animations, control stick fore/aft and control stick left/right). One thing I noticed though is that the animation of the bones only travels half the rotation distance that I have...

MSFS20 Interesting menu layout. Has MSFS always done this?

Just loading up MSFS and I noticed the Pilot Profile tile was peeking through on the right side so I resized the screen to get this. Can I just scroll across to the right to the profile? Also, notice 4 hrs in my logbook. Guess who never leaves devmode?

    MSFS20 MSFS Localization Manager

Well, that's a big disappointment. I don't know what I was expecting from the MSFS Localization Manager but whatever we got wasn't it. I was kind of hoping that it would use Bing to automatically fill in translations but no such luck. Maybe I was too optimistic with that. As far as I can see...

MSFS20 Initial impressions on DLSS in SU10 (1.27.21.0)

I guess I was one of the lucky ones because today's update went well with no obvious problems yet (reading on the MSFS forums there seems a few who had some issues with the update). The first thing I thought I'd try was DLSS (I think there's an option for the AMD version of DLSS too...

MSFS20 Trying out the AI resizing in PaintShop Pro 2023

For better or for worse I seem to be stuck with working with Corel PaintShop Pro. The latest version was recently released and it's been 6 years since I've upgraded so I thought I'd give the demo a try. In that time they have added some AI algorithms and one of them is for resizing. In the...
