• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    MSFS24 Python SimConnect

Just fooling around with python and SimConnect. This python code works for both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024. The 2024 SimConnect.dll is included in the zip, along with the python code, and a batchfile to convert the .py code into a windows executable. TCalc_Python Edited... I added Surface Type...

    MSFS24 UV Problem?

Hi Arno. While working with MSFS2024 BGL libraries and their textures (.KTX2) I have found a problem. When MCX loads the textures and models it appears the UVs and the images are vertically flipped. When they are exported, compiled and displayed in the sim, their orientation looks OK, but truely...

    Single asset decompilation suggestion

MCX can load a BGL library. That's great. But could the ability to scan a library and than load just a single model for decompiling, rather than decompiling the entire library? It would save a lot of time and computer memory.

    MSFS 2024 texture problem

Hi Arno. It seems in the past we've been able to import ktx2 textures from 2024 in MCX. But this doesn't seem to work now. Did something change, or was I mistaken? ElectricalBox.zip

    MSFS24 SimPropContainers

Just to start a conversation about SimPropContainers. This is a new thing introduced in MSFS 2024. Why do we need to be concerned with it? You can create quite complex scenery models (and aircraft?) with this method. For example, instead of modeling windows into your wooden_shack_027 model...

The latest dev version (1.8.25074-devrel) has mixed up the MSFS2020 SimObject UVs:

    MSFS24 Package Order Hint Setting

In MSFS2024 we now should be using Package Order Hints. It tells the compiler what we are making so it can guess the package order the Sim should use. These are the allowed hints: BESPOKE_AIRPORT_PATCH These are 3rd party packages that override changes in BESPOKE_AIRPORT packages...

    AI Model Generation

I wanted to see if there were any free pumpjack models. There were some, but I thought i'd try to make my own. I didn't need great quality and didn't want to spend a lot of time modeling. There's no doubt ai has entered Flight sim modeling. FS2020 and 2024 have tons of procedural models as well...

    MSFS20 Ambient Occlusion in MSFS2020

2020 is a bit different in how AO can be shown. Tiled textures usually have an AO channel (red) in the COMP texture. But this is for the texture only, not for the whole object. To get an AO in Blender, we need to Bake the AO texture in the Cycles rendering. And lets say you've done just that...

MSFS24 Ambient Occlusion in MSFS 2024

2024 AO mapping. Baked AO.png in Cycles, not EEVEE. Added a tweak in Vertex paint for the base of the object. The UV2 is a misnomer. There is no extra UV... just the same as the object. You can adjust the AO.png in a paint program (lighten, darken, contrast...) The tile textures can have their...

Setting the Object Origin to the World Base - Addon

In Blender, the origin of mesh shapes like Cube or Sphere get added with the center of the object at the world origin. But that's not what we usually want for flight simulators. We want the base-center of the object at the world origin. With AI Copilot's help, I made an addon to achieve this for...

    MSFS24 MSFS 2024 LODs

I thought it might help to have a thread specifically dealing with MSFS 2024 LODs. At this date, Asobo seems to be indicating they may change the LOD rules a bit, so we might need updates to any ideas here if that occurs. To start, the sim allows up to 150 vertices for the smallest LOD of 0.5%...

    MSFS24 Creating LODs with InstaLOD

Hi all. Although I tagged this as MSFS24, this applies to all the sims. Making LODs is time consuming and now demanded by MSFS 2024. Applying your creations to the Marketplace may be impossible without following the dictates from Asobo and Microsoft regarding LODs... probably because of the...

    MSFS24 Converting ktx2 textures

I pieced together a batch file setup to convert ktx2 textures to PNG, TIF or JPG. Place the ktx2 textures into the input folder and double-click the BAT file. The results are in the output folder. Extract_KTX2.zip You can still use the texture.cfg to reference textures without including them in...

    MSFS24 Simplygon for Blender

It appears that we have access to Simplygon. I think installing the MSFS2024 SDKs gives us a license to use it. My Simplygon_10_license.lic.user exists here in my PC: C:\Users\xxxxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\SimplygonSDK (supply your own username) You can then access the Simplygon download...

    MSFS24 Biome Corrections

In MSFS 2020, it was possible to overwrite the base biome XMLs to alter the vegetation types. MSFS 2020 had a huge data error in assigning the area "Central US forest-grasslands transition" as cold conifer. That gave us pine forests in Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, all of Illinois. My solution...

MSFS24 MSFS2024 Blender exporter and packed textures in .blend files

The new exporter doesn't like packed textures in .blend files. Asobo might not fix this... The process I use is to first pack all textures, and then unpack them. This assures all textures will be in the resulting textures files to accompany the .blend file. Now you have an unpacked .blend...

    MSFS24 MSFS 2020 model compiled to MSFS2024

    Here's a MSFS2020 Microsoft model, LOD0, extracted from MCX. I used a texture.cfg to reference the textures. Here's the XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ModelInfo guid="{485ffb58-f6ac-48ca-9077-2e20ef024fc6}" version="1.1"> <LODS autoGenerate="true"/> <Animation...

    MSFS24 Conversion of 2020 Sample_Materials to 2024

Hi Arno. I have what I think is a conversion of the MSFS 2020 Sample_Materials project sample to MSFS 2024. Included are the .blend files for 2020 and 2024, as well as the derived glTFs and textures. Sample_Materials_2020_to_2024.zip
