• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Version 1.60.4836 Beta Released

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi,

Using the ADE beta update and 0.25.

I have the same problem as George - when I enter the editor with a poly using something like the gp_Signs_red texture, the location is in the upper left corner, forcing me to scroll all the way left and up to see the texture and polygon.

The second problem I'm having is that the texture mapping is not kept between GP Editor sessions. I map the polygon with a given texture, and when I re-enter the GP Editor my mapping is not retained - it seems to be at some other mapping values.

Initial mapping:

Then I press OK. Then I right click/Edit Object and get this:

attachment.php

Note also two more things. The texture has been squashed horizontally - the GMAX UVUnwrap command never does this - it is always displayed as it really is. And second, note the distance marker at the bottom (2 ft) - and here is the result in FS:

The wingspan of this aircraft is 150 ft - clearly the lettering is not less than 2 ft wide...

ADE file attached below.

Hope this helps,

Tom, if you created those polys before version 0.0.23, you probably would get such results. Also, if one originated as a copy of the other and you didn't call the GP Editor when it was first copied, the results would be unexpected - temporarily. But, if they were created with version 25 and copying was not involved, do you recall the sequence in which you performed those changes?

When I load both polys and change the texture size as you appear to have done, I get the expected results - which is not what you were seeing

Regarding the size of the rendered image, while I agree that the range bars as shown in your screenshot are misleading (don't know why since they are OK on my system), the textures are being rendered at the correct size, given the dimension it appears you entered for the texture sheet. Each sign occupies about 10% of the texture height At 114 ft for the texture, the sign would be reneered as 11' high and that appears to be about what your screenshot shows.

Hi,

I created two of the polygons previous to v0.23, but the polygon I used for this testing I created new.

So I started again from a Stock Airport, and created two polygons from scratch. It does the same thing - the texture mapping is not saved and it looks just like the one above when I reload it into the GP Editor.

I agree the polygons are being rendered in FS correctly (as long as I don't re-enter the GP Editor). If I do enter the GP Editor, if I click Cancel my previous editing is retained, so that's working OK.

I don't know what is going on with the range markers, but it's probably related to the problems I'm having above. The texture is also still squashed horizontally, making it hard to edit the mapping.

Hope this helps,

Tom, are you now using Version 0.0.27, which I posted only a few moments ago in the Ground Polys/ Helpers thread?

Don

Well it is all very quiet ;) Don and I are wondering if there is any feedback or perhaps the new function is so good that y'all are immersed in the opportunities it provides :D Or perhaps it is so arcane that no one finds it the least bit interesting :(

We have had no reports good or bad and no error logs so we are feeling a tiny bit lonely here ;)

Well - Jon - where can I download the Beta!? :)
The link above seems to be dead.
Cheers, Vlad

Right now the beta is on hold while Don is on vacation. Once he is back and settled we will release a newer version.

I'm back home tonight.

If you guys have found any additional ADE GP issues during the past three weeks, now would be an ideal time for you to post about them.

Hopefully, I can clean up any oustanding issues during the coming week.

Don

Hi Don and welcome back. I hope you had a great trip :)

I put the beta on hold while you were away. But now we can re-open it :D

There's been a large number of posts since I left. If none of those posts referred to ADE-GP, then the last issues reported were in this thread (if any more recent posts reported issues in ADE-GP, would their author(s) please post a reference) and by Tom in a post a short distance above (which I believe now to be fixed).

Regarding the compiler sometimes hanging, there was an issue with poly winding. I'll re-release ASAP.

George, to answer your specific issues:
The red polygon is semi-transparent.
There's an alpha channel in many of the provided textures to allow some "print-thru" of the detail in the underlying textures. You can adjust this to your liking - or eliminate it entirely
Lines are transferred as polygons.
Not sure what you mean. If you are referring to the import function, this can certainly happen, but should be inconsequential unless you want to edit. I explained this in an earlier post - perhaps not adequately
If I edit the two polygons and add extra vertices, the compile hangs.
This is probably due to the poly-winding issue noted above.
When I first created the yellow polyon, it was in the wrong place.
Without knowing where the right place was, I can't comment. If it's still happening after the next release, please provide the ADE file.

Tom, your latest reported issues are:
I noted two problems:

1. Created a line, and textured it in the GP Editor. Appears as expected in FS9. Then I moved the vertices around in ADE, went to the GP Editor, and clicked OK. No change in the shape of the line in FS. Then I changed the shape, width, and texture color. All is changed EXCEPT the shape - it is still the shape I created originally.

2. I set the line width at 4 feet, but when I re-enter the GP editor it is set at 1.219 ft. Appears that it is displaying meters, when it should be displaying my 4 feet. I'm not sure which width is appearing in FS.
I'll investigate.

Gary, ailux, your issues are almost certainly due to the poly-winding problem, which will be fixed in the next release.

To all, since I'm in "catch-up" mode for the next little while, if you open new threads on ADE-GP issues, please include "ADE-GP" somewhere in the title to make them easier to spot.

Attached is ADE-GP Beta Release 0.0.32.

It resolves the following issues:
  • the poly winding issue and associated "hangs" (hopefully) - which I resolved before I left but didn't dare release without additional testing
  • line vertex movement not reflected in FS display
  • errors in reporting Ft. vs M.
For the moment, I'm assuming any other issues that have been observed are attributable to one of those.

Please give it the "once over".

I had a couple of funnies when I first started ADE. It wouldn't open any of my existing files.

I deleted the log file and restarted ADE and it seemed to work OK

Edited a couple of polylines and rotated a polygon without problems.

Pre-rotate:

Post-rotate:

I'll do further tests tomorrow.

George, I presume you are referring to the poly moving, not the change in attitude which does appear to be correctly undone.

Hi,

Sorry if I seem to be stupid but where can I download the updates?
I use the 4849.15890 but when trying to add polygons they are hidden behind the aprons or runways (only in FSX, not in FS9).
Is the last zip in this thread the one that includes all changes?

4849 is the current ADE beta but Don may have updated the GP library..... This is because the library can be updated outside of ADE. I expect there are some problems with the way ADE itself interacts with the Library and I will need to make an update. When that happens ADE will get a new version number.

Jon, while I did make a new release of the library yesterday, the interface was not changed.

What sort of coordination do you see as necessary.

BTW, I too have seen similar situations when creating polys with the beta.

None unless something is reported where ADE is not working correctly with the GP library.
