• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aerofly 2 Released; Beta; Steam Games

This is gonna take a while...

Because my current computer has been able to run everything I've thrown at it for the last few years, I've neglected upgrading, but with the demands put out by things like X-plane, Outerra and a lot of newer games, plus the push for VR, (I want very much to see Aerofly FS2 in 3D!) my system has finally begun to show its age.

New system ordered yesterday! Hopefully this will keep me in the running for the next year or two! (But I don't know which VR headset I want yet)

So... I started the Sim, press the Start button and inmediatly I was flying a cessna in 3rd person view across some hills in... someplace in the US.
There was some yellow boxed at my left over a highway so I folow them a couple of miles until the end of the path then i saw more yelow boxes in the distance. Fly there an there was an two runway airport so I landed there.
It was fun, the airplane controls were fine and the scenery looks good, the lighting and sky remember me the War Thunder world... very nice from high altitudes, but not so much close to the ground.
I'm lookinf foward to explore more of the U.S in this Sim

I've generally disliked photo-scenery, mostly because there's almost never any attempt at building placement, or its very poor. With companies like Drzewiecki Design (and others) and people like Tonywob doing such great things with OSM however, (plus the great job Aerofly itself did with some limited city areas) I think (hope) photo-scenery may be coming of age.

Glad you've liked it so far!

Quick question though: Have you downloaded the additional high-resolution updates? Your Aerofly folder should be about 90GB, if you have.

Downloading now :)
Edit: Also I learned that I'm near San Jose in the West Coast of USA :p
So... if I want to go to the Grand Canyon I must go east...

Gerli,

Those yellow rectangles in the sky are 'fly-through' rings for runways, guiding you in. You can turn those off in Settings.

Welcome to the USA. I hope you have a pleasant time here. :)

You can go into Location and click on an airport, or drag your plane to area's. Then you can also adjust Altitude on the far right (in Location settings) and set your altitude you'll start with, if you do not want to start on the ground at an airport.

When you start at an airport, you can start on a parking spot or on a runway, or on approach to the runway. Click the one you want.

I suggest John Wayne airport on the West Coast, California, South of LA, North of San Diego (two largest cities in Southern California). John Wayne airport has a ton of planes and things in it.

You can adjust time of day with T key. Shift-T reverses 'time'. I key brings up your information bar (along the top).

Wait till you get the high resolution pack. Much better....

Thanks Lionheart, the game let me fly while the aditional textures are being downloading, that a very good thing.
I'm going to "explore" the US in small steps, jumping from small airports to the next I'll try to reach the Grand Canyon first and them go all the way to the East coast, maybe I going to switch plane in the next "leg". I'm currently at William Robert Jhonsond and the the next airport to the east is Fresno Yosemite.

Gerli,

Note that only California, Arizona, and Nevada are in Aerofly. Thats like the very far edge left of the United States. The rest is sort of a washed out blank.

But... The territory that it does have is immense. California is HUGE. Same for Nevada and Arizona. So its a LOT of area to cover. But the East Coast and Central USA are not there.

I flew along the Mexico border last night, flying around the deserts of South Arizona. I cant believe the crazy terrain I saw. There are like 3 or 4 craters in Mexico that no one talks about, right over the edge of the border of Arizona. They are perfect half spheres. Definitely meteor impacts in a cluster, various sizes.

I flew the F18 on that run. What a beauty. Extreme detail like you cannot believe.

You can see the dish craters. I cannot see volcanos doing this. Those must be meteors. I am thinking several hit and it caused a cracking in the techtonic plate and you see lava vent 'hills' around the area which would be a later effect from the impacts.

I knew there was a mine here. I drove this highway many times testing for Range Rover, but never knew it was a strip mine 'pit' type of mine. Amazing. Low rez, but cool to see what it is.

Another view of the dish craters in Mexico. Greenish zone is Mexico. I flew over the famous Rocky Point (Mexico) area, which is now like a resort area for tourista's...

This baby handles very nice. Cruising around at mostly 20K altitude at around 400 knots. Gentle compared to the crazy Pitts biplane.

Bump mapping is so well done. It must be 4K or more.

Touch down at Mothans AFB. Signed out on my government ride.

I know they 'might' be volcanos, but usually a volcano turns into a big hill or mountain. We have vents all over Phoenix. These appear to be flat dishes right on the surface of the desert floor. Around it are small vent hills.

Ya think they would want those multi million dollar jets a little more smoother than that! :duck::p

Keep the posts coming Bill enjoying the show.;)

Hate to bust you're bubble but those are volcanic calderas formed from erupting magma pockets. Small meteor craters would have disappeared long ago from erosion and tectonic plate upheaval going on there.
