• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I wrote to Abacus asking the above question you posted:

Our reply:

They will be forward compatible, which means, yes, you could make something in v3 and the models will
work in v3.5 and then can be converted for FSX.

Np

you are welcome. I tought as well that it would be interesting knowing if FSDS 3.0 objects would work in FSDS 3.5 and than in FSX.

I am happy that it does :)

fsc files created in FSDS 2.24, 3 and 3.5 can be opened in all three versions.

One has to be a bookkeeper, though, to keep track of what features work in what version.

The good thing, though, is that with 3.5 you will have a choice of compiling for either FS2004 (using makemdl.exe) or FS-X (using Xtomdl) (and you can switch preferences within the program, instead of having to close and reopen with another icon.)

Sounds very good indeed. Being able to choose between what flight sim to use for is realy good as I want to create products for FS9 and FSX.

FSX in my view is the far better but FS9 is still funn :D

I finally stopped waiting and have been finishing off an airport with a combo of FSDS3 work that totally works in FSX and new stuff with GMAX and the FSX gamepack. The learning curve was steep (and still is as I progress), but I'm also sure that there will be things that only GMAX (or 3DS MAX) can do, so at least I'll be conversant in both.

It's a joy to hear that I'll be able to port the FSDS3 stuff to FSX, though for forward compatability. ...now if we could just get .xml to do the same stuff that SCASM did...

I was in contact with Adam Howe last week about another matter with respect to the various versions of FSDS and he assures me that 3.5(the FSX upgrade to version 3.0) will be released " hopefully soon".

I still speculate that the hold up has more to do with MS release of SP1 than anything and suspect that once SP1 does eventually become available, Abacus will make good their promise "soon" after.

We all wait with baited breath and every part of our bodies crossed.

I thought that abacus said that SP1 would not hold up 3.5's release?

News on FSDS 3.5

I wrote to Abacus:

Does the delay of FSDS 3.5 has any thing to do with the delay of
the Update for FSX called sp1?

And if yes, will FSDS 3.5 be ready soon?
It would be good to know more about how close FSDS 3.5 is to being
released

Any dates from the author would be much welcome if possible.
I heard once, it was in beta stage. This is some time ago now.

Just want to check back on the progress.

Cheers.

The Answer was:

Yes, they are working on a version for FSX and is in an alpha stage right
now, soon to be a beta and then will be released for the public to purchase.

Best regards, Sharon

Thanks Aero Files,,,,,that answer from Abacus is extremely helpful and encouraging.....that person should run for political office!:)

According to latest news from ACE team leader Phil Taylor, SP1 should.....should...be released this coming week.

Hi Everyone, I was just on the phone with Abacus and talking to Adam. He says it will still be a few weeks before v3.5 comes out, but that they are near the end of trials etc. Sorry for the 'bad' () news!

Hi Every One

Thank you for posting here.

Good to read the latest post.
Here is a nother post which is a e-mail respond from Adam:

The FSDS v3.5 is being released soon to be FSX comaptible right our of the
box. Currently for scenery desginer, there is little difference. For
aircraft, the main feature will be that you can generate planes directly
into FSX as you could into FS2004 with 3.0. We are also now using the XtoMDL
from the FSX SDKs instead of the MakeMDL from FS9. This allows a true FSX
model. Also, the Boolean feature has been udpated along with some other
features.

I like it.

*I* can't create decent scenery, but I have created a textured block right smack where my house should be - and I'll be darned if I can do it again! Scenery is just NOT my forte.

Hmmmmm.

Rescheduled for June, but this is not fixed.
Will it be June or will it be 2008?

At least give us some info.

Customers don't like to wait, at least I don't :banghead:

:yikes: Thumbs up or Thumbs down? :D

So what upgrades will this new version have? FSDS3 works in FSX to a certain extent, but whenever I apply night textures to a building, the scenery objects behind it (ie. the TREES) bleed through it at night! It's ungodly looking... please tell me this will be fixed.
