• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Gyroflug SC-01B Speed Canard

Hi dave :)
Any news about it? :)
Sadly not.
As the shape is rather complicated in some ways and the reference is rare I decided to improve my Blender skills
in a few other projects.

Meanwhile I wouldn't consider this dead - I still plan to get back to it and go on with this beauty :)

You might want to look into subsurf in combination with sculpting. It seems dieser gyroflugzeug has a somewhat "organic" shape and in general that technique works pretty well for that purpose

I've just been reading about this project, and it brought back some memories from FS2002. Bought some package there, along with a CD full of freeware containing right this plane, although being designed for FSFW95 (at least its what flightsim.com is telling me). Jesus, how time flies by. Keep it up Dave! Take your time on whatever you need to do. Perfection needs its time, at least it's what I've been saying for years to my friends :p

Hi, I´ve just sign in the Forum, because I´ve been reading about this fantastic project since a couple of weeks, when I decide to build a RC speed canard. I am a Speed Canard enthusiast since the early 80´s, when the präsident of my aerosoaring club in Germany bought a real Gyroflug SC 01b Speed Canard. This plane is so incredible fantastic flying in the air. I also created a Speed Canard for the Reflex XTR RC Model simulator by my own 15 years ago. Last week I made my first steps with a 3D printer, and than I found this page in the Internet https://3dlabprint.com/ My first thougt was to create a Speed canard which can be printed with a 3D printer like the 3dlabprint planes. So I start searching for a good 3D model which can be fit to create a printable version of the amazing Speed canard. Now I think if you decide of the dead of your FSX project you may can offer the 3D Blender model of the speed canard for other developers to purchase for it for a download from a homepage like this https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/aircraft.
It would be so sad when your project will rest for the next 50 years on your Computer and waiting to come alive for the rest of the world.
I wish all a happy Christmas and, I hope, a better New Year!
Greetings from Germany Manni

Hello there and sorry again for the silence.

Indeed I wouldn't like to consider this project dead or give it away, meanwhil I just don't want it to suffer from my lack of aircraft modeling experience and reference.
But as you mentioned actually being in touch with the real thing you might be able to act as the critical element on the reference part.

Talking about parts that are rather uncommon for photography publications there's a few things that kept me from going on:
  • How do less photogenic spots like the gear bay or the pedestal areas look?
  • Does the back seat actually have controls? (I've seen versions with and without instrument panel in the back)
Also there's the fear of mixing the SC-01 with the SC-01b version.

Maybe you can help me a bit there? :)

Greetings from Bavaria :P

Hey - it´s six years later (according to the last message) - so my obvious question is ... any news ? project dead ? That would be so sad !!
