• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Kennedy Space Center Scenery for MSFS2020

Here are a few WIP screenshots - nothing too "exciting" right now, but we are making good progress. We are working on a few “boring” areas that need attention nonetheless, since we promised a complete coverage using custom-designed buildings. The areas we are working on at the moment are:
  • Observation Gantry (area where crawlerway branches to Pads 39A and 39B
  • NASA Press Area
  • SLF area, including finishing touches to the MDD (Mate/De-mate Device) for the Orbiter.

As always, a real feast for the eyes, I'm already looking forward to my first trip into space! 😍
Can I ask if your models contain PBR (textures)?

Are you planning on acquiring models of the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft? I guess you're using the Asobo 747-8, is it available as a scenery object? Even if you can't find a full SCA model, it should be easy to add the extra tail pieces to any plain 747 model...

Hi Christian, thanks for your kind words! To answer your question - I am actually using almost 100% stock default MSFS/Asobo PBR textures. They are EXCELLENT, in my opinion. I only use my own textures if I can't find exactly what I need in stock textures, or, in the case of signs and emblems. I am also aliasing these textures, so that I won't have to include them all in my package, which totally saves a lot of space and download time. Let me know if you want me to elaborate on the process.

Yes, that is an Asobo default 747-8. Any default aircraft is a SimObject, so it can be inserted as a static SimObject using scenery editor in the SDK. Interesting that you are asking that because someone else in the Asobo forum was asking me the same thing. The answer is - there is a FREE add on available on Flightsim.to: Boeing 747 SCA. (SCA stands for Shuttle Carrier Aircraft). I will make a provision in my WASM object controller that, if user has this addon, controller will place this aircraft into the proper place, and if they don't, it will place the default 747-8, as pictured above. That will be the solution for the initial release. After the initial release, for one of the updates, I will create a dedicated SimObject with a custom model, either purchased or one that is free for use, without any copyright restrictions (Sketchfab has plenty of free, no royalties 747 models that are good enough to be static props).

I’d like to know more about what these default Asobo textures are and how to use them.

At the risk of going off topic, here's a couple of links to reusing MSFS textures:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/re-using-msfs-textures.456467/

You apply the sim's textures in your modeling program, and export to MSFS as usual. Then you create a texture.cfg file to reference the texture locations in the sim, and delete the package texture images as they are no longer needed in the package.

Thanks Dick, those links are where I basically learned about this ;). To keep things on-topic, I'm gonna post a few observations I discovered along the way in the first link you included, to help folks just getting started on this.

Holy....

Extremely nice and such an uncommon addon. For sure unique in MSFS. Those interesting details are extremely eye-popping! Fantastic skills btw....

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to share some progress on our Kennedy Space Center scenery! We've been crazy busy putting finishing touches on the 3D content, ground polys and time-dependent functionality! Most of the 3D assets are in, and we are hoping for a release in a few week's time!

Wow. Just....... wow. Looks incredible. I checked default FS2024 KSC area and it is empty, just default "shopping malls". I think Asobo saw this thread and decided not to do anything about that area :D. You guys have been at it for a while, great progress!

Hi everyone! Just a quick update, looks like this scenery will be available December 30th in the Marketplace. I submitted it to MS MP and I am in a testing stage now. Here are just a few final screenshots - we made tons of improvements on the Apollo tower and we got the incredibly detailed Space Shuttle Gantry in! We implemented efficient LODs to make sure the frame rates don't suffer.
