• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

OK - now is the chance to have a whinge ;)

I make no promises of course but tell me the one most irritating thing about using ADE and I will see if I can make it better..........................................

Mine will be no surprise; the most irritating things to me about ADE are:
1. No manual download of the latest updates.
2. The fact that ADE can load an AFX airport bgl but then is unable to save it in any form.

Mike

The first I understand, the second I do not. Folks load AFX bgl files into ADE all the time, turn then into projects and compile them again

Only thing is not being able to see the background image under airport size flattens.

If one could have a separate mode, like the approach mode, in which to do the terrain work. leaving the main screen for AFCAD and object placement.

Hi Shaun

If you mean airport background polys, land class etc do you know that you can change the transparency of them using Settings > Colors? This way you can see through them to an image behind them

Of course you can also use the view menu to hide them altogether and if you have a ProKey you can hide them individually

Hi Jon,
I think about 2 side things:
- each time I run I have to answer it's for FSX not FS9
- There's no drag & drop to open files. Nor ad2, ad3 nor bgl.

Be nice if the pdf manual was converted to a help file, then clicking on help would give you help.
The current situation is a pain in hotel rooms (where I spend a lot of my life) with no (or expensive) internet connection.

I can see that Chris, and of course at the moment we are moving more towards an on-line help system

Oh right. Didn't know that! Super!

My most irritating thing is the moving of objects when selecting them. If you don't hold the mouse perfectly motionless while clicking, the item moves then highlights. Sometimes you realize that the item moved and sometimes you don't. I click the undo button a lot just in case.

I find that a lot to! Perhaps restricting moving an object to space+drag?

But that might trip a lot of people up.

I take the second one back. I tried again and this time when the ADE compiler spit out a bunch of errors I spent the time correcting them and was able to compile it. I guess I was expecting it to compile with no further interaction from me; like AFX does.

AFX does not use an SDK compliant compiler but one if its own. Although FS may accept the output ADE won't. Once you have fixed the problems though then you should be home clear - that is unless you shuttle between the two programs. I would be interested to know what the compiler errors were though - perhaps you could send me an example or two of AFX created bgls that give problems - jon AT scruffyduck DOT co DOT uk

I think the most irritate me is open ADE with FSX. The computer will be slow down quite noticeable.
One other thing, I wonder if it is possible to right click on the "airplane" that indicate the position in FSX and add something like parking by using the coordinate of the "airplane" maker. It is possible to add parking but it is not quite the same position. If there is something that read the coordinate and copy to by the parking would be nice.

This has been an issue for a long time - the problem is how to avoid it sensibly. A click and then a click_drag would be annoying also I think. Anyway I am adding this to the list now to look at again.

Not sure what I can do about the first. As for the second it is possible to select an object and move it to the aircraft marker - not quite the same but that is available now. Also if you have the ProKey it is possible to place certain things like parking and taxi nodes with keys from within FS.

ALain - I can drag and drop any ADE project file onto the ADE shortcut and open the project. I can also do this with Bgl files and xml files. Does it not work for you? I realize that if you have more than one version of the sim ADE will show the version selector. However it should show the last one you opened so that it just needs a click. If you have only one version of the sim then the selector should not appear. I am not sure how else to let users select which sim version to work with when opening ADE but I am happy for suggestions - perhaps multiple shortcuts?

I have had this problem in the past when using Directory Opus in Windows XP SP3 Pro. With my new development computer using Windows 7 x64 and a newer version of Directory Opus; this problem disappeared.
