• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What Irritates you about ADE?

Hi Jon,
Here comes my long list:):
1. Load an ad4 work file> make a few experimental changes > save as (under another name)> compile to see what it looks like and close ADE> ADE says the airport is not saved and do I want to save it > click OK without thinking > oops, gone my former ad4 work file without the unwanted changes.
2. Renée, my wife, wants me to insist on having this Béziers curve helper shape. Says that maybe if it comes from her, it will be implemented more speedily:).
3. I second what Edphipps and Shaun have said about the moving of stuff when selecting with your mouse.
4. till 10. (to keep it decent): I will keep that for later as I do not want you to become desperate. I will leave that up to George:D.

How come no-one honored my request for one? I can see your first one Roby but are you saying that ADE is offering to save when it should not? Bezier Curves are on my list ;) I have discussed the accidental moving of selected objects with my advisers. They recommend that dragging should only be possible using both hands on the mouse with a foot holding down the shift key :yikes: I on the other hand think there might be a simpler way using teeth :)

I meant not droping onto the shortcut but onto an opened ADE window
Of course FSX is pre-selected but as you asked, I find it "irritating" cause it is useless. May be a selector in the preferences ?

As this is an almost all male forum, I am inclined to suggest still another means to drag but, rest assured, I won't:D.
And, yup, that is what I am saying when it comes to saving. I do not understand why (Oooh, Germany scored a second one against Portugal) ADE offers to save the loaded file when you have already saved it as something else. It is confusing me and maybe others?
Roby

PS (so that you know it is me): the header of this thread reads: What Irritates you about ADE? Guess that is why we do not stop at just the most irritating one:).

My one item, and I believe it will be fixed it it hasn't already, is the stripping out of object placement code for objects not in the LOM.

cheers,
Lane

Jon, thanks for adding my request to the list. At this point you must feel like your standing under the back end of an elephant that's ill with diarrhea. Hopefully you have a snorkel. Have a pint and relax. Even if you made ADE perfect someone would complain about that.;)

Ed

ALAin I can look at the drag and drop onto an open window in ADE. As for the selector Selecting the version in ADE might be an option - I will add that to the list also

Roby - I have a task to make changes to the way ADE handles file names - perhaps that will help. However if you can save a project under a different name and ADE will ask you when you close if you want to save it under the original then that is a bug.

That one is being worked on Lane and should be in a new release before too long

Hi Ed

Well to be honest it had not occurred to me before to find out what actually annoyed people. The results so far as a mix of things that can be done quite easily, things for which there is already a solution and things that would be a benefit to have in any case :)

Hi Jon,

Yes, I think that is what ADE does do. To be more explicit: If I save under another name after having made changes, it will still ask to save the airport and will save it including the changes made before closing. It is double up and confusing because if you do save it again you have saved the new file but under the old name.

PS: irritating is too big a word I would choose for the issues evoked. Let us call it annoyances:).

It is a bug though Roby - I will see if I can work out what is going on................

I find it really nasty (hopefully I do not write something here which is already working - if so, please explain me how to do it) that you cannot compile explicitly several items. (For example only compile the exclude rectangles) I know this works for the AFCAD and for the objects but I am not able to do this for exclude rectangles. If this works I am more than happy :)

If you use a "trackball mouse" no problem with accidental moving and you don't need a clean desk, you need only one finger.;)

Hi,

Yes multiple shortcuts would be one solution, although it doesn't bother me to click one more time.

No you can't compile exclusion rectangles on their own. They are compiled with the scenery objects. Actually it is probably a bad idea to just compile exclusion rectangles since the user would then become responsible for ensuring the correct priority order of files. There is an extended compile for FS9 to overcome some compiler limitations. But if you want to compile just a specific set of objects then not at the moment. There is a method by which it can be done now but it is very clumsy and requires using the Raw Data View Tool that comes with the ProKey. I have been asked for this before so I will find the item and give it another look :)

PS - I found it and it is called 'Conditional Compile'

Roby

I am unable to replicate this unless I am looking that the wrong thing. Here is what I did:
  • Loaded a project
  • Made some changes
  • Used Save As to save it with a new name
  • Closed ADE
In this scenario ADE does not ask me if I want to save because the project is clean from the last save

I repeated the above thus:

  • Loaded a project
  • Made some changes
  • Used Save As to save it with a new name
  • Made more changes
  • Closed ADE
In this scenario ADE does warn me to Save. When I do it saves under the new file name and not the original file name. So I cannot get ADE to want to save under the original name.

Hi Jon,
Yes, that is when it is supposed to happen but it is not a thing that is consistent (sorry I forgot to add that). I do not know why but it could depend on exactly when you 'save as' i.e. before or after ADE saved it automatically (I guess the latter).
I will check and try to pinpoint it as it has happened to me several times.

For those of you with wayward mice :) The next release will allow you to set a cursor move distance before the drag kicks in. Depending on how wayward you mouse it you can set the value to suit ;)

My pet whinge is about Lists->Taxi-links.

Why are "Index" and "Name#" included whereas markings and lights do not appear?
