• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What Irritates you about ADE?

Adding a folder in LOM doesn't always work, one needs to add each individual file.

Jon. When I got the email about this thread, I was so inspired by your generosity that I asked my wife if there was anything about the house that irritated her and had to spend the last several days working on a honey-do list and am just getting around to your question.

I cannot say that I am irritated, but we did discuss some time back about the straighten links command and FSX's habit of making the features of all the links that are perfectly straight display the features of one link for all the links even thought each may have something different, such as edge markings or center lines. It was discussed that it would be nice if the straighten function detected that each link was not identical and nodes were offset a minimum amount to get around FSX's nasty habit.

The second item is either a bug or a limitation of Windows and/or my computer. Many times when I place a library object with FSX connected to ADE, the add library object window does not close. I have to either shut down FSX or wait for a period of time for ADE to catch up. While it could be that I'm working with too many windows, I'm using a computer optimized for FSX, and placing library objects is the only function where I've encounter a problem.

Thanks again for what you have done and continue to do with this software. There are a lot of things that irritate me, but ADE is not one of them.

When updating taxiways, I find it irritating that the list of existing taxiways is not in Alphabetical order. It would be great if it followed the A,A1,A2,A3 format, rather than a sort that put A1,A10 .... I know this is more work programatically. but it would make it so much easier.

One other thing in my wish, if you have a snap function to the guideline would be good. Drawing a straight line with multiple nodes along the line is not easy. If we can draw a guide line and let nodes or line snap to that guideline would be wonderful.

Ok I'll bite.

To place a custom gate (homemade control-j ones) you have to save the airport with xml file. Open xml and replace the default gate guid with your custom one, save and recompile the xml with bglcomp which in turn strips out the flattens it seem.

If you could make the guid field editable in the gate properties that would be great.
That's all I could think of, speaks of a great product :)

Thanks, Nick

1. When clicking multiple taxi links (the lines between the dots) to make them straight, if you misclick one, you have to start again from the first link. It is quite frustrating when you have many small links to click.

This should be fixed in the current version - now providing you keep the shift key down misclicking won't cancel the selection

2. When you assign an airline to a parking spot and it changes from default green to purple (for example), you cannot make that new color have any transparency.

Airline colors are set in the parkingSpecs.dat. We don't have an editor for that (other than manually changing it) but you could set a transparency for an airline - perhaps I need to provide an editor....

3. As a bonus pet peeve, when you move your mouse over the edges of a background image, the border highlights a bright thick pink line. It's nice when you are moving the images around, but it should be disabled when the image is locked or something.

I'll add this to my list.

The trouble really starts when the HDL starts to get dates on it!. I recall my wife one day adding how many years it was since she first asked me to do something :yikes:

The straighten link command only moves the location of the nodes associated with them. I am sorry that I don't recall that this can cause FSX to actually change link types and properties........

I have not heard this one before - does any one else get it?

Do you mean taxiways or taxi names?

OK this is where I show my ignorance - I don't know what this is

I have this on the list.....

Jon, you are a brave person - I don't know how you find the time to keep up with all of the changes and 'bugs' that are being reported to you.

My main 'wish' (not really an irritation) is that, whenever there is a change / update, could you issue a 'Change Note' text file that would automatically be place into a 'Change Note' sub-folder in ADE. This would make it easier to find notes on what has been changed rather than going back thru this forum trying to find something that was in the back of my memory. I would suggest that each 'Change Note' would be a separate file rather than an up-dated single file as it would be easier, I think, to find what I am looking for.
I have been waiting to print out a new set of ADE Manuals but I suspect that we will never get a fully up-to-date version as changes are being made so thick-and-fast.

I can do that but the latest release notes and documentation is always on line here: https://scruffyduck.screenstepslive.com/s/help_docs/m/20268 We use the on-line resources since they are easy and quick to maintain and Helli who writes the manuals can only catch up when I take a break.

BTW you can always access the on-line site from the ADE Help menu

Perhaps I should have said jetway.
Placing default jetways is fine the way it is (Right click on parking spot, add a jetway) but the problem is if you want to place your own custom jetway you have to edit the xml file and recompile.

If the GUID field were editable then I could paste my own jetways GUID in the box and have ADE do the hard work for me. Currently the field is locked and just shows the default FSX jetway.

Ah OK - that makes sense - let me add that one to the list :)

Ah OK - that one is already on our list. I just didn't get to it yet

Yes I do. But it's not confined to the LOM. When I'm connected to FSX at any time and for no observable reason any window box that opens to allow an edit may suddenly take 60 seconds or longer to close when you click ok or cancel. Most of the time no problem. Then all of a sudden you are waiting. I thought it had something to do with my giant KATL project. But I will be glad when the connect/disconnect buttons are back for this reason. I am now in the habit of disconnecting when I want to edit something(well most of the time).

OK Ed well the manual connection method should be back tomorrow some time

My discussion of this with anyone was a very long time ago. Whenever the nodes along a taxiway are perfectly aligned, FSX displays all of the links along that perfect line with at least some of the characteristics of the first link in FSX regardless of what is called for in ADE. The only way to correct it is to offset nodes a slight amount. I guess you could say that characteristics of one link bleed through to others. It would save me having to make manual adjustments if there were an option for the straighten function to not make the nodes quite so straight:banghead:.
