• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Global AI Ship Traffic FSX, P3D and MSFS2020

After a long time completely away from diverse simulation fora as I had to focus on supporting my family, but not completely away from modeling, which I mainly do while travelling or even commuting on the train to work, I have just released Version 7 of GAIST. It is compatible both with MSFS 2020 and 2024 and works with the real time data from MSFS 2024.

The release coincides with the grounding of the container vessel NCL Salten near Trondheim, Norway which makes for a great testing of the real time traffic... For those who are quick to download you can still find the grounded ship in MSFS 2024 with live traffic enabled. Download is available from Alpha-India teams website: https://www.alpha-india.net/aigfiles/files/GAIST/GAIST_7.0.0.zip and from flightsim.to

The live traffic is definitely still not perfect... The NCL Salten did not go backwards onto the rocks, but at least it is the right ship in the right place.

It works :D Still stuff to do, e.g. my wakes are barely visible when ships move very slow like the case here in New York, but it was possible to follow the container ship and tugs into the harbor real time - that is with approx 3-5 minutes delay

Henrik, I love your work!
One question: Are the ships from the GAIST package controlled by Live Traffic from MSFS24, or are the ships "just" compatible with Live Traffic (do both work together)?

Thanks Christian. The ships from GAIST are selected by the match algorithm of MSFS24 which looks for ships of similar type, flag, and size. Matching does not yet include IMO or MMSI identification, but hopefully we will get there when Asobo have solved a few other important issues... The matching is absolutely not perfect especially when it comes to yachts and other private boats, where AIS data is often very wrong making matching hopeless from the outset.

Thanks for your clarification, Henrik. Then we can hope that the good GAIST will be even better in the future than it already is :)

Thank you thank you thank you, I shipped 3 boxes from Australia to the USA when I moved back here and put an airtag in one of them, and it last pinged in Dunkirk, FR. It literally just moved away from the wharf minutes ago. It's been six months since shipping the boxes and they were supposed to only take 2 months. Now I think I know which vessel it's on I may be able to track it in sim.

Time for an update of GAIST. Version 7.1 will be released today with some changes which suppress some of the inherent problems of real time shipping in MSFS 2024, such as the simulator placing the largest ship in the fleet whenever AIS data does not include size data which typically happen for small private boats. The result a 400m container ship displays where it should be an 8m sailboat... Not all of the AIS related issues can be fixed - eventually MSFS will have to apply a filter on obvious erroneous data and hopefully their data supplier can apply smart filters like the data partner on GAIST RT did to improve visual quality.

Besides the twisting the real time match performance V7.1 includes a few additional ships - most importantly a number of yachts and some tugs. The yachts purchased for donations so I can't take credit for them. In the offline mode in MSFS 2024 and in MSFS 2020 a significant amount of additional ship movements have been added - especially for minor leisure crafts.

Also a few texture issues have been corrected.

Upload should be finished later this afternoon, whereafter I will post a link.

GAIST Ultra V7.1 is now available on flightsim.to and it will be available through AIG AI Manager later in the day.

Donations to the project were spent on adding yachts, which was necessary to increase the match rate. Otherwise the Simulators match module would have placed a fishing boat and that doesn't fit in the French Riviera...

There is still a lot to resolve with live traffic, but in some places it shows up quite okay.

Meanwhile, Kai has made GAIST V 7.1 available through AIG AI Manager.

I took a small tour to test GAIST in offline mode near the Jument light house off the coast of Ouessant and had the luck to pass exactly as La Recouvrance -a replica of a French naval courrier boat from 1817 - passed the light house. La Recouvrance is done by Erwin Welker and the scenery is LFEC by YvesP6 https://flightsim.to/file/93400/lfec-ouessant-fs2024 It seems that the offline mode is much more stable than earlier in both MSFS 2020 and 2024.

We just uploaded a small addition to the route network of GAIST. It has been done by @Fischkopp and besides adding additional traffic to European waters it is obviously also matching his Hamburg Hafen scenery. The addition is a separate package, which can be found here: Flightsim.to

I have started a small side project to GAIST, which will be called GAIST Harbors. Using the GAIST Library the project populates so far around 20 harbors from tiny Basque fishing ports to Rotterdam and Singapore.

Even I have placed some leisure ships, the focus is on commercial ships and the manual object placement is done so it fits with Mamudesigns Marinas addon. Here an example from Getaria near San Sebastian, Spain. Left Side Mamudesigns Marina - Right side and background GAIST Harbors
