• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Just finished texturing the tires, next up some more additions to the main landing gears, two actually, struts for the door that connects to the main shaft and I'll leave you guys to guess on what the other detail is...he, he.

Woooo, you'll do the VCs! :D

Yes I will, I believe that is what EVERYONE is mostly interested in, the external model fine but the VC development, everyone is rubbing their hands together, lol.

Forgot to post the picture for the previous update...

Textured tires with no stretchy parts, polygon count was reduced from 434 to 299 on these for each tire, big improvement. Now, modifications continue! Now for the axles.

How are the polycount reduced, just curiosity, from one who not have idea.

The people want see the airplane finished, with the VC, and model, :D

Much better! Cylindrical mapping on the treads?

Cylindrical mapping yes, one big stripe to paint, can't get any easier than that, lol. Tejal, poly are reduced by looking at the mesh and deciding if a poly belongs there or not or what to do to remove poly but still keep the appearance looking good...polys are reduced by either; collapsing vertices, target welding vertices, etc. And I just got finished reducing and improving the axles...now to finish it off and move to next part.

Well, I'm off to eat turkey with the family and sorry guys, I didn't have enough time to model a turkey in gmax and put it on the DC8 for this day, lol. Anyway, in case anyone wanted to see the mesh work, here it is...

Always cool to look at the skeleton and innards of a 3d model.

Be back later, I still have more landing gear work to do when I get back.

Later guys, happy thanks giving!

I love your model :)

One question, how did you do to join the fuselage with the wings?
It's one part or are separate?

Not it is not 1 part, they are separate altho it appears to look like 1 part. Joining the wings together with the fuselage will increase the vertex count as a single part.

Joining parts is easy, attach the two parts together via 'Attach' and then collapse/weld the vertices where needed, note that the meshes must much like a gear bites into another gear otherwise, you'll have smoothing errors. Most of the times you can improvise and blend the vertices and poly lines until it looks satisfactory enough to you ... but this is a design technique, not to be discussed here, I've broken this rule so many times in this thread, a moderator is going to whiplash me one of these days.

The main shaft undergoing modifications, some other details added and a closer look at the tire textures.

When I am done with the main gear strut, I'm going to throw in the hydraulic wire assembly, to keep the poly count really low on this, they will be represented by black 3 sided mesh, hopefully it will look good.

Update!

Almost done with the landing gear work, some things will need re-texturing because of modifications.

I got a busy work week ahead of me, so...I'll be out for the next two weeks or so, later guys.

!!!ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Hey guys, I just started a small site dedicated to the status of the project which, will be able to give you guys a much more in depth look. The link is here >>> http://mrfaosfx.webs.com/ bookmark if you wish. There is even a picture of the status of the main landing gear re-work on the front page, looking good!

I will continue to post updates on this thread but will also post updates on that site as well. However, the updates on the site will be much more in depth, where I may go into details such as design techniques, texturing, coding, whatever some stuff of which, I cannot speak of in this thread because, this IS the showroom, meant only for posting progress about completed work.

Judging by the tremendous amount of views this thread has, I predict the bandwidth of the little site may get exceeded but we will see how it turns out, if it proves to be useful, I may purchase the domain and customize it as much as I can to talk about all of my projects HJG and NON-HJG included.

Thanks for your time guys!

Great Mrs Faosx, good idea, people who want ask something or see in more detail your progress could go to the site, I'll visit the website. I want ask you about Fsrecorder I read your comment about this somewhere, how do you fix the sound issue, I hate Fraps.

Great Mrs Faosx, good idea, people who want ask something or see in more detail your progress could go to the site, I'll visit the website. I want ask you about Fsrecorder I read your comment about this somewhere, how do you fix the sound issue, I hate Fraps.

The developer of FSRecorder who is Matthias Neusinger states that the rendering feature of FSRecorder does not record sound for the following reasons; FSRecorder 'forces' the simulation to run at a set frames per second, it uses the sim as a renderer where FRAPS actually ONLY captures the frames per second.

That means you can set FSRecorder to run the simulation at 100 fps in the most densely packed airport with ai-traffic and still get a video that will show the simulation running at 100 fps BUT you cannot record sound because the sim is not running in 'real-time' like it does with FRAPS.

You get the idea now? FSRecorder uses flight sim like a video renderer to create a flight simulator video where as FRAPS just captures a frame. If you want to implement sound in videos done with FSRecorder, you'll have to get creative with them :-]

The only viable "solution" for sound is to record the sound separately while recording the original scene(s) for later rendering to video, then insert/synch the sound during post-production.

Yeah, thanks for the explanation, I had thought on that already, even with a exterior sound recorder, no problem, I am getting skilled in the editing issue. :D, lately as said before I am getting sick when I see how Fraps destroy my Fsx videos, (slideshows) you know :p

The only viable "solution" for sound is to record the sound separately while recording the original scene(s) for later rendering to video, then insert/synch the sound during post-production.

That is where FRAPS comes in handy. Render the scene using FSRecorder, then use FRAPS to replay the scene and capture the audio and merge them together into your favorite video editor. The benefit of using FSRecorder is that you'll get absolutely no LAG in it and you can set it at 30 fps and you'll get a 30 fps video no matter how complex the scene may get.

It is much better than having a laggy video, in my previous video update of the DC8, that video was done entirely in FSRecorder, you'll observe that there is no lag what so ever in that video, if I had recorded that with FRAPS, I would be getting around 18-24ish since LAX is a little dense but I was able to record it at a precise 30 fps which goes well with youtube's 29.97 fps which is standard.

I simply use the Sound Recorder program I have installed. It will record any sound being played by the sound card, irrespective of the source. It has a tiny footprint and causes no lag issues.

I think that the exterior recorder could work, the sound is not bad, anyway if I cand get rid of Fraps, deserve a try, the exterior sound only will be used ocasionally, not along all the video, each filmmaker has his own method :D
