• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What Irritates you about ADE?

That is on the list for the current beta Roby....... In any case you can find it by checking to tooltip for the Airport Reference Point now.

In the approach mode a Terminal_Waypoint can be added on a precise heading and DME from any type Navaid. The Guideline is a draw device with headings and DME so you do not have to manually enter any values for calculation.

Select the Guideline from the top menu bar buttons (looks like a ruler) and click on the VOR. Now drag the mouse crosshair in any direction at any distance and ADE will show the DME and heading in the upper left corner.
That's how I do it now. I copy the coordinates of the VOR, paste it into the Guideline, and edit the length and heading, then manually move the arrowhead to match the magnetic. But if it was all automated. ... :)

"In any case you can find it by checking to tooltip for the Airport Reference Point now."
Good to know (overlooked that one). Thanks, Jon.

I remembered one more thing - when you add a library BGL file to the LOM, it should use the text file (used by Rwy12, Instant Scenery, etc.) to provide meaningful names, rather than names like TRG_Library.BGL_001, etc. That way thumbnails are not so critical.

Here is an example of a text file:

The text file is kept right in the same folder as the BGL file, with the same base name but a txt extension.

Thanks,

Instant Scenery comes with a program called Library Maker, which will create libraries. I use Library Creator XML, though.

But that's not what the text file is used for. It's used for creating the list of library object names in the main IS display, instead of using the GUID when there is no text file present. So it's for display only.

Hope this helps,

This is related to FS9 models as I recall since the FSX and P3D models can have a name embedded.

Yes it is. And the majority of addon library objects are in FS9 format.

Could it be that Roby ("robystar") has an alias ("raymk")?
It is strange but sometimes I don't feel quite like myself but as far as I know I haven't morphed into 'robystar' even though his words are identical to mine!

Yes, it is strange. Sometimes I don't feel quite like myself either but as far as I know I haven't morphed into 'raymk' even though his words are identical to mine!

PS: I forgot to put in the quotes:D.

Never thought that echoes could occur in an online Forum! :stirthepo

Attempting to open an airport .bgl file which includes the airport 'afcad' along with associated airport scenery - I get the dreaded message 'this file does not contain an airport' even though it does exactly that!
I only want to make a few parking spots.

Can you send me an example please John? I am not aware that this should happen - ADE generates bgl files with the airport and the scenery and I have never encountered this issue when reading the bgl files back into ADE.

OK I am away from my office now until tomorrow evening. I will check it when I get back.

That seems to be an invalid airport bgl. Neither ADE nor Afcad2 nor AFX will open it

MCX can read the models from it.

The airport you want to make changes to was not designed with an airport editor. It is a very old airport bgl that was compiled with SCASM.

This is what some of the runway code looks like in your LSGS.bgl prior to compiling the .sca file to a bgl file.

You would need the original designers code to make changes to the parking spots and then compile using SCASM.

Hi John

I have looked at it now and. of course, George and Jim are correct. This is a bgl file created prior to FS9 using tools and source which is not understood by ADE (or AFCAD/AFX). That is the reason that ADE says there is no airport in the file. As far as it is concerned it can't find anything that it understands or recognizes in the file. A tool like FSSC or Airport For Windows might understand it - but it can't be translated directly into ADE.
