• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What Irritates you about ADE?

I can't say that happens to me and I am not sure what could be done about it. I guess if the double click is slow then it might generate an extra vertex. I will run some tests and see if I can replicate it.

What do you guys think of having right-click to close polys?

cheers,
Lane

Maybe or perhaps Alt-Click if the double click causes a problem Right click is probably not the best because it is used to open the context menu. Let me look at it.

OK - here is a question for you folks who have the double click close issue - when creating a poly do you left mouse down and drag between points or do you left click, move the cursor to the next position and so on? I always use the second method - I don't bother to drag between points. If you are dragging then try without. Dragging means the mouse down is at one point and the mouse up at the next. So the mouse down and up at one point relate to different vertex. So the last one to close needs mouse up followed by a double click and that could generate a second vertex perhaps.

Not sure I am explaining this very well. I got woken early this morning to chase a lamb out of the garden and I am not really that awake

I can now replicate the double vertex issue. It is the aircraft symbol crosshair that causes it.

As per the picture if you double click on the crosshair to complete any draw that uses vertex the double vertex is added.

004 should be 003 since it was the double click to close the apron. 003 is under the 004.

ADE never irritates me because it's an incredible gift to our hobby.

I'm not a very accomplished user, but there are a couple of things I thought of to improve ADE:

1. Integrated way to make a background image. Currently I use either SBuilderX or Rhumba's Gmaps and they work fine but both ways involve numerous steps. I like how SketchUp does it: You click a Google Earth button and it shows you a map. You can search for a location in a search box, zoom and pan the map, and then click a 'Select Region' button which displays a rectangular box to show what you are capturing. You can move the corners of the selection and then click 'Grab' and the geo-referenced image is captured and imported.

2. A way to load terrain data for reference (not to edit) similar to tmfviewer. That makes it easier to see roads around the airport, elevations, locations of airport background polygons (the stock scenery stores airport backgrounds in CVX files) etc. This would help for example to position buildings along roads or to add terrain vectors or polygons in ADE to augment what's in the scenery.

Thanks very much for ADE!

Jim,

I'm sure this is not true, but I have created double vertexes when I double clicked on my original starting point, so I thought I would check.

If you double click on top of the first vertex you created to form the final apron/polygon, you can get a double vertex. If so, double click when you create the *next to last* side. The last side will be created automatically.

To create a rectangular apron (for example):
Click once to create the first vertex.
Move to the right and click again to create the bottom horizontal side.
Move up and click again to create the upper corner.
Move to the left and DOUBLE CLICK to create the 4th vertex.
The last side will appear automatically.

Hope this helps,

That is a very interesting suggestion and I will look into it.

Unfortunately we have never been able to decode the CVX file format so it is not possible for us to do this sort of thing.

The fact that the taxiway drop-down in link properties are listed in create date order. All other lists or drop-downs are in alphabetical order.

OK George - I have put that with the other stuff on Lists.

So you are referring to the taxi name list in the property dialog....

Hi. I'm very new to ADE. Thank you so much for this great software. Very easy to get into it.
So after more than 20 years of FS (yeah, I play MSFS since FS4 on my Mac SE in the early 90s) I'm finaly building the scenery of one of my home airport that no one ever did realy.

I'm not sure, I could be mistaken, but I did read (most of) the help manual :
I don't get why I can't copy and paste a group of objects. I miss it so much.

Also, a function to group objects, and even give a name to this group of objects would be great. Lock, Show and hide function would be then so powerful.

Unless there is a option to turn it off, I don't like how ADE will connect to FS automatically and I am unable to disconnect it.

This is an update to the double vertex I reported on with pictures in the above post. This problem started with Version 1.50.

The double vertex is not part of the crosshair code but is related to the lock code that ADE uses. Anytime ADE is locked to FSX the last vertex to close the poly will be duplicated (one on top the other). It does not matter what is drawn in ADE such as blast fences, chain fences, aprons, all polys and shape vectors generated with shp2vec, etc.

If ADE is unlocked no double vertex is created on the ending double click.

It is very easy to replicate. Just lock ADE to FSX and then draw someting that uses vertex's. The double click to close the object being drawn will create 2 vertex on top each other.

Same applies to both type lock codes in use for FSX
Same applies to using FS9 when drawing the Poly or Aprons.
